Hi @sahilpb05
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're facing an issue with your SD card not working. There could be several reasons why your SD card isn't being recognized or functioning properly. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue.
1. Check if the SD Card is Inserted Correctly
- Re-insert the SD card into the slot carefully, ensuring it’s aligned properly. Sometimes, an SD card might not be seated correctly.
- If you're using an SD card reader (external), try connecting it to a different USB port.
2. Test the SD Card on Another Device
- Try the SD card in another device (like a camera, smartphone, or another computer) to confirm whether the issue is with the card itself or with your computer.
- If it works on other devices, the issue might be with your PC’s SD card reader or the drivers.
3. Check if the SD Card is Detected by Windows
- Open File Explorer and check if the SD card appears as a new drive.
- If it’s not listed, you can check if it’s being detected in Disk Management:
- Right-click the Start menu and select Disk Management.
- Look for your SD card in the list of drives. It should be listed as something like Removable Disk or with the card’s brand name.
- If it appears as unallocated space, you may need to format it to make it usable (be aware that formatting will erase all data on the card).
- If the card shows as healthy, but the computer can't read it, there may be an issue with the drivers or the file system.
4. Check Device Manager for SD Card Reader
- Sometimes, the issue may be with the SD card reader driver:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Look for Disk Drives and USB Controllers sections.
- Expand these sections and check if your SD card reader is listed (it might appear as USB Mass Storage Device).
- If you see a yellow triangle or error symbol, right-click on the device and select Update driver or Uninstall device, then restart your computer. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
- You can also visit the manufacturer's website (for your laptop or SD card reader) to download the latest drivers.
5. Assign a Drive Letter to the SD Card (if it’s not showing)
If your SD card is detected in Disk Management but not showing in File Explorer, it may not have a drive letter assigned. Here’s how to fix that:
- Open Disk Management (as described above).
- Find your SD card in the list (it may show as unallocated or unassigned).
- Right-click on the SD card partition and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
- Click Add and choose a letter for the SD card.
- Click OK, and check if the SD card now shows up in File Explorer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
