Hi @plooker

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you are experiencing issues with the keyboard, where certain keys are not functioning correctly. To help resolve this, I kindly request you to follow the troubleshooting steps outlined below and check if the problem continues afterward.

Run Keyboard Hardware Test

  • Check if the keyboard hardware is functioning correctly.
  • Search Windows for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics → Run as administrator → Device check → Input Devices → Keyboard Test
  • Download latest HP PC Hardware Diagnostics if not installed
  • Select Keyboard Test and click Run once
  • Follow on‑screen instructions; test ends after tasks or 3 minutes

Check BIOS and Reset Defaults

  • Verify if the keyboard responds in BIOS and reset settings.
  • Restart → Press ESC repeatedly → Startup Menu → Press F10 for BIOS
  • If Startup Menu does not open, keyboard hardware may need service
  • In BIOS, press F9 to load defaults
  • Press F10 to save and exit

Reinstall Keyboard Driver

  • Remove and reinstall drivers to fix software issues.
  • Search Windows for Device Manager → View → Show hidden devices → Keyboards
  • Right‑click keyboard name → Uninstall device
  • Remove all devices under Keyboards
  • Restart computer to reinstall automatically

Disable Filter Keys

  • Fix delayed response when typing.
  • Search Windows for Accessibility → Keyboard
  • Turn off Use Filter Keys
  • Uncheck Allow shortcut key to start Filter Keys
