Now a few drops of water spilled. keyboard does not write some letters.  Can be recognized repair after the warranty? why does not work? Function Spill-resistant keyboard was promised. Two years ago has been recognize complaint of touchpad. HP service repaired touchpad. Could the keyboard's waterproof function be compromised during repair?

Thanks for answers Jitka

Where does it say "waterproof" and where does the "anti-spill" come in. These are words only you are using. Nobody guaranteed that is you spill water directly into it there will be no problems, and nobody said it can prevent spills ("anti-spill")?? HP repair did not compromise the spill resistance it is just how the keyboard is designed to fit into the chassis. The design resists infiltration of liquid down below the keyboard and into the motherboard but water, even a few drops, spilled onto the keyboard can still cause electrical dispruption in the circuitry of the keyboard. The keyboard is separately removeable which is not a common design nowadays and makes it easier to replace the keyboard. And a replacement keyboard is not too expensive.

See pages 49-52 of the Manual here:

The backlit US English keyboard is part number 768130-001

Hello Huffer,

thank you for manual. I found keyboard in my country:

https://www.moravia-parts.com/keyboard-768130-fl1.html.

I am going to ask e-shop to advice with compatibylity. I read about it in czech webs. These are more options how to connect a cable. On market are more types of keyboards 768130-fl1. I afraid of compatibility. Im not an expert. Because on malual is any mention about cable.

And where saw I word "waterproof" ... Probably, If you see into hyperlink, there is information about "spill-resistant design" too. I understand your explain that everithing below (under) keyboard is protected. "spill-resistant design" is like the shield  of harware components. But common consumer like me do not understand this.

Do you mean that HP service will be expensive? Because exchange of keyboard looks easy. I afraid of compatibility. US version is cheaper.  1/4 of price + postage from US to EU + TAX + custom... At he end is similar price...

Do you mean that good idea i is my own repair versus HP service? Service knows more than me. Is there any possibilyty of error? For example watter dammage enything else.... Notebook works correctly with external keyboard. It was spill little bit yesterday. A short time to result of damage?

Thank you for your advice.

If the spill was recent you might find the keyboard dries out and returns to full function. Give it 72 hours. Not sure what HP Service would charge to replace the keyboard in Czech Republic. You only want to install a keyboard with the proper HP part number listed in the Manual I linked. If you do not have a backlit keyobard now you can install a backlit one. If you have backlit and can only find the non-backlit that is OK to install too. Keyboard is a very easy replacement as I said but maybe it just seems that way to me as I have done lots of them. You should be able to buy a keyboard and find someone with some tech skills who can do the labor for you. Sorry to hear about your troubles and I hope I have made clear how a "spill-resistant" keyboard works. You would be looking at a much worse problem if water got to the motherboard. You do want to not use the laptop for a couple days just to let anything that did get under the keyboard dry out.

Thank you so much for explain and smart advice! And last question. Does it necessary to back-up data during replace the keyboard? Maybe ...disconnet battery is important to safety work... etc.

You should be backing up anyway so if you never have this is a good time to start. Keyboard replacement runs very little risk of an electrical accident. There is actually no powered part involved unless it is a backlit keyboard. The riskiest part is the ribbon cable. Lots of people break the zif connector where you insert the ribbon cable and if you have a backlight there are 2 ribbon cable and 2 zif connectors.
