My power button is stuck in the down position following a drop. i was able to get the button back out with a pry tool so i could turn it back on. is the whole power button board going to need to come out, or is the problem with the actual button losing its ability to pop back out? any help is appreciated. thanks

HI,
Remove the power button board and look at underside of power button. It should have some plastic tabs which give it some elasticity. Where the button touches the power button board you should be able to feel a slight click with your finger when you push on it. This creates enough force together with plastic tabs to push the button out.
If you provide the exact model number of your PC we can help you find power button board. It is a quite cheap part of the PC.
Hope it helps,
David

Hi,
The part number for the power button part is 856808-001 and can be found quite easily online. Check to see if the actual button presents any problems before replacing the actual board.
Hope it helps,
David

I got the new board in the mail, however. The problem isn't on the board, it's in the physical button. It seems to be jammed somewhere, it doesn't move freely back and forth. Pictured is the affected area with the board removed

I've managed to get the power button to move freely, by tapping loose the plastic housing of the button. I'm having a problem powering it on once the board is in place. Once I reconnect the battery and the board, it can turn on when the board is out and pressing it with my finger. I put it in place and hit the button with a tool to make it go all the way in, and it again wouldn't respond.

I don't know if this will help anyone else but after dropping my HP envy 360 on the edge, my power button was not working/ stuck also. I ordered the power button board but that did not fix the problem. The problem was that I had dented the metal case a bit and the opening that held the button had become slightly misshapen so it couldn't move freely. Fortunately mine was dented in such a way that I just used pliers to squeeze the dent out, the opening went back into shape and good as new.
