McAfee provides help to uninstall their product(s).

There are many additional resources on the Internet to help you remove the unwanted McAfee software.
For example,
Open your Browser
Search for phrase "uninstall mcafee completely"
HP Device Home Page - References and Resources

Hi Fur-Dragon
Thanks for your reply but I found it hard to decipher. My system isn't compromised but I have suffered id loss due to several cyberattacks, so didn't trust my anti virus with McAfee anymore & sought to remove it but could not remove a part of it, being it's scan app which has continuously been a source of annoyance over three years especially through COVID when I had to work online, when it popped up on my screen with no control available to me. I have a screen shot of what happened when I attempted to uninstall, can I upload it to you to help you understand this issue? Cheers Maria 1160

I've edited my first post to remove any extra words that might be confusing.
I have never used McAfee -- not ever.
I would have thought the instructions to remove their software provided by McAfee would work.
??
Perhaps you have to first separately Disable the McAfee software.
Try to disable the software -
One of the many "how to" articles from the Internet:
If you do not like that article or if it does not apply to your situation:
Open your Browser
Search for "How to disable McAfee"
Find an article that can help.
Next, After you manage to disable McAfee -
Go back to your instructions to remove the McAfee software from the computer.
If you have a subscription to their software, contact McAfee and ask how to stop using their software.
What else?
After you manage to get rid of the unwanted software,
Consider adjusting your Windows notification settings to stop -- or at least slow down -- notifications coming from within Windows.
Settings > System > Notifications
You can switch off all OR leave Notifications switch ON and then "pick and choose" which apps / senders can disturb you.
-------------------------------------------------------
Remember that you do need protection on your system.
Windows Defender can be switched on after McAfee is OFF and removed.
