hi guys.
i want to start learning linux and i dont want to install it on my new laptop, so im using my very old notebook (hp 620 notebook) for that , the problem is the cpu of the of HP 620 notebook does not support Virtualization , and im going to use virtualbox a lot ..
the cpu is : Pentium(R) Dual -Core CPU t4500 @ 2.30 GHz
so my question is can i upgrade the CPU of this notebook at the first place ? if yes, can someone please tell me which CPU ( a cheap CPU coz it is not worth a lot of money :P) that supports Virtualization should i buy ?
looking forward to hear your answers .. thanks in advance 🙂

Hi:
With the GL-40, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do.
That chipset does not support VT. Look under the Advanced Technologies section.

Hi:
Below is the link to the quickspecs for your model.
The supported processors can be found on page 3.
The first 3 listed support VT.

Hi:
The link works fine for me...
I copied and pasted from the document, the 3 processors that are VT capable and supported in your PC.
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P7370 (2.0 GHz, 3 MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB)* †
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6670 (2.2 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* †
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6570 (2.1 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)* †
† Requires Mobile Intel GM45 or PM 45 Express Chipset.

You're very welcome.
Make sure you check the chipset your notebook has...It has to be what I posted above.
If you don't know what chipset it has, I have zipped up and attached this free utility that will tell you.
To be safe, I would go with the T6670 as the best one you can install.

Unfortunately I cannot.
Both the GL40 and GM45 chipsets would report that same info.
Maybe you would want to take a chance on the T6670. They are listed on eBay for less than $5.00 for some of them.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=T6670&_sop=15
At least it has an 800 MHz FSB, and that is the fastest FSB the GL40 chipset can handle.
Or you can install Windows and run the utility I attached to confirm what chipset your notebook actually has.
