You will have to load the OS in legacy mode. How did you go about trying to clone old to new?

I used Acronis to create a copy of the old SSD on an external hard drive and then to clone from external hd to new ssd once installed. Followed their documentation exactly.

At this point I'd be happy to start over from the beginning as long as I can figure out what mistake I made and how to avoid making it again!

You might try a clean load of Windows 10 just to see if the new SSD works. Sounds like it would. Get a Windows 10 install disk from the Media Creation Tool site and see if you can load it just as an initial experiment.
