I m buying a HP Laptop DAxxxx with already 1 To HDD Hard drive installed and I7 processor.
My question is how to upgrade it to SSD ? should I replace the existing HDD drive by another compatible SSD or I can just keep the existing HDD drive and add an "SSD M.2 2280" (with 128 or 256 Go capacity) ?
I already read some topic on this subject, and read also the HP 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide available on the link http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06147959 and I didn't understand if an optane memory would be installed in the M.2 connector. It is written in the guide that "the Optane memory module is installed into the M.2 connector that is used by M.2 solid-state drives. You cannot install both an Optane memory module and a solid-state drive in the computer"
Thank you for your answer,

Yes, Optane memory is a piece of M.2 SSD hardware and your machine only has ONE slot of M.2 therefore you can't install BOTH to one slot.
You can check Device Manager, Disk Dives to see your machine does have Optane or not.
By the way, what is your HP Laptop DAxxxx bacause xxxx can be from 0000 to 9999.
Regards..

If yes, how and is it possble to keep the HDD already in it.
Thank for your answer,
You throw out the optane and put an SSD there, If NVMe is supported by the BIOS you go for that, only that and nothing else, Samsung or Crucial.
After you copied the HDD over to the SSD you (i would) throw that out too, it does slow down the system a bit here and there but more important draining the power a lot... for lag...
Keep both for warranty issues.

Hi,
There is no Intel Optane memory in the notebook.
Your PC supports cheaper M2 SATA3 and faster M2 PCIe NVMe SSDs. You can also keep the hard drive for storage.
Example of drives:
https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/hp-15-da0047na#SSDFilters
You will need to install the OS on the SSD for performance gain. The best idea is to remove the hard drive and leave on SSD, install the OS on the SSD and then put the HDD back into the notebook and remove the Windows partition.
You can create a bootable pendrive for the OS by downloading media creation tool (before replacing drive) and running to create the USB drive. There is explanation on Microsoft support page:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Hope it helps,
David

Hi,
Thank you for your answer,
3 other questions :
The crucial link went to a 15-da0047na, my future laptop is 15-da0047nk? Is there some problem in this ?
The 3D nand nvme pci 500 GB To is equal price than the 2.5" SATA 3, I think it would intersting to put there only the 3D nand Nvme, did the laptop work correctly ?
The laptop is new, will I loose the warranty if I finish the process ,
Regards,
Thank you for answers,

Your welcome,
The notebooks are from the same series and basically the same model, so all upgrades are the same. Your exact model number was not available in Crucial site.
Yes, the best choice is the M2 PCIe NVMe SSD. Much faster than the rest.
Upgrading the RAM and Drives is an accepted practice and will not void the warranty as long as you do not break anything during the upgrade.
Hope it helps,
David

Bonjour.
Found this model in france, seems to be made for that market, however, in the 5-6 ads i looked at there is no mension of optane...
Nevermind, even if there is an optane, as said before, throw it out. It's a bad excuse for the slow and laggy HDD, I am asking myself why manufactorers still putting those in especially in a laptop year 2019... They must have a mountain of them in their inventory apparently...
An NVMe replace's both of them and extend the battery time, go for that mon ami.
Bonne change!
