I want to add a new SSD (500gb) to my laptop. What is the best one to upgrade with?

What is the height of the slot (7mm or 9,5mm) ?

The slot can take up to a 9.5 mm but all SSDs are 7 mm. Not a problem as 7 mm device fits in mounting hardware for 9.5 mm.

Samsung Evo 860 2.5 inch SATA SSD is a good one to use.

Do I need a spacer to mount the 7mm ssd?
HP Recommended

Not really. The screwholes and SATA connectors are in the same place. The 9.5 mm fills to the top of the bay or adapter like water in a full swimming pool. A 7 mm leaves some space at the top like a swimming pool that is not quite full. But the 7 mm bolts into the caddy and the connectors connect just fine. A spacer just fills up the pool with a plastic piece.
