Hi @Dre121

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the situation—and I’m truly sorry you're seeing a “USB port reset failed…Code 43” error. That message usually means Windows has stopped the device due to a reported problem.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery path to help restore USB functionality.

Step-by-step recovery for USB Code 43 error in Windows

1. Disconnect and reconnect the device

  • Unplug the affected USB device
  • Wait 30 seconds
  • Plug it into a different USB port (preferably on the rear panel if using a desktop)
  • If possible, test the device on another computer to confirm it’s functioning

2. Power cycle your system

  • Shut down your computer completely
  • Unplug the power cord (and battery if using a laptop)
  • Wait 1 minute
  • Reconnect power and restart
  • This clears residual charge and resets USB controllers

3. Uninstall and reinstall the USB driver

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager
  • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
  • Right-click the device showing the error > Uninstall device
  • If available, check Delete the driver software for this device
  • Restart your computer
  • Windows will reinstall the driver automatically

4. Run the Hardware Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
  • Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
  • Follow the prompts to detect and resolve USB issues

5. Update chipset and USB drivers

6. Check for Windows updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update
  • Click Check for updates
  • Install all available updates and restart

Let me know how the system responds after these steps. If the error clears and the device reconnects properly, we can fine-tune USB power settings or explore alternate device paths.

You’ve done everything right by staying observant—I’ll be here to guide you further.
