Hi,

I am having HP laptop, HP ProBook 440 G8 Notebook PC and very happy with the laptop.  I am curios to know one thing about the laptop lid.  There is one camera with manual shutter which is a really good thing, but what is on the right side of the camera ?  Please refer the attached image where I marked with red up arrow.

Thanks

@sandext,

See your user guide (page 7). Could it be what HP calls a camera privacy cover? If it is slidable, it probably is.

@Tk_srq, Thanks for the response.

The answer is not clear to me. I checked the user guide but there also it is not clear, may be because of picture size.  Please look at the picture i attached with question. I put a red up arrow for the query. The sliding cover is fine which is placed upside the camera but my query is about the round shaped mirror like hole, beside the camera.

Hi sandext.

I have the exact same thing on my Probooks 640/650 G8/G9. If tk_srq doesn't have a laptop with this "feature", it's difficult to understand what you're referring to...... Thank you @tk_srq for assisting.

This picture taken from the 440G8 notebookcheck review clearly shows the circular item you're talking about. Unfortunately, HP's two manuals for your laptop don't really explain what this is. This HP specsheet does a better job at it.

On the very first page, we learn that this is actually an IR camera LED for the combined HD and IR camera. On models that don't have an IR camera, but a plain HD camera (as seen on the audio/multimedia part of the Probook 440 G8 specs) this is missing. The IR camera is a biometric device, much like the fingerprint scanner. When it is being used, the LED will light up. Read this old post about a Kaby Lake laptop with two separate cameras, HD and IR, and two IR Leds, and I think you'll have a better understanding of the layout:https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Windows-Hello-not-compatible-I...

Take care!
