Here is the story

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4065dx that the graphics card is bad so I bought a HP Pavilion dv7 -4000 series laptop in hoping to replace the motherboard

I ending up getting a HP Pavilion DV7 4283cl    which has a 630985-001   motherboard is it missing the Fan and the CPU

thinking that is fine as I can just switch them out

Now as I found out the 630985-001 has a intel and my old one is a AMD

So now I need to get a Intel processor & Heatsink & Fan can someone tell me for the heatsink & fan will a from a  HP Pavilion DV6 DV7 DV6-6000 DV7-6000 Laptop Fan with Heatsink 666391-001

work and what processor should I use

Hi:

Below is the link to the parts list for the dv7-4283cl:

HP PartSurfer

The fan and heat sink are sold as a unit:

There is a camera icon you can click on to see the photo of the part to the left of the part number.

SPS-THERMAL MODULE DIS 35W

The original processor that came with the PC was an Intel I5-480M dual core.

You could install the Intel Dual Core i5-580M dual core processor as an upgrade.

Will a Core i7-840QM fit on it?   I also heard that G1 and Socket 989   are the same

also I seen 603691-001  this part and also seen a part with the numbers 637610-001 3MLX6TATPM0   which is for a HP dv7 -4000 and they look the same would it work?  see below

You're very welcome, Todd.

I cannot confirm that the 637610-001 would work because it doesn't show up at all in the HP parts surfer site or on the HP parts store website.

So, if that is the only part number you can find, you'll have to take your chances and hope it works.

It does look the same though as far as its shape and design.

An Intel i7-840QM processor may not work because if you look at chapter 3 of the dv7-4000 service manual, different motherboards are used for the quad core processors and the dual core processors.

Installing one would be a complete experiment on your part.

The dual core motherboards may not support the 45W processors.

Ya you seen that on eBay too

I still have another i5 540m like the one I put in that G7 laptop so that I got only need the fah and heatsink as this unit was shipped of them

and 12.99 is not a lot for it

Thank you

I know a i5-520m will work will a i7-720m work and would the i7-720m be better or it is speed slower as it is a Quad core vs a i5 dual core

Thank you

Hi, Todd:

As I posted earlier, the quad core processors use different motherboards than the dual core processors and a quad core processor may not work in the dual core motherboard.

There is an i7-640M dual core processor.

The easiest way to check the differences between processors would be to use the Intel processor comparison list.

Here's the side-by-side comparison of the i5-520M and an i7-640M dual core.

Thank you again I also have a  i7-640M   and the i5-520m which is better in you opinion?

Thank you

PS I also have a i7-720m
