The person that said in order to upgrade the processor, you would have to replace the motherboard is correct.

All Intel 5th generation Core and newer notebook processors are integral parts of the motherboard.

Your only option for an upgrade would be to replace the motherboard with one listed in chapter 3 of your notebook's service manual that may have a better processor.

Upgrading the processor for improve video game performance will not do much.

The most important piece of hardware for video game performance in the graphics.

You can install a motherboard with a better processor and graphics adapter, but then you will have to install a different heatsink.

My opinion...you will be throwing good money after bad doing those kinds of upgrades to your notebook unless you can find the parts very cheap.

Make sure that if you go ahead on this venture to buy a motherboard that comes with the Windows product key, otherwise you will have to pay at least $100 for a new W10 license and product key, and $200 if your notebook came with W10 Pro.
