Hi:

You can't add another memory slot because the processor was not designed to run the memory in dual channel mode.

As far a 16 GB...I have looked on the Crucial website, HP service manual and they all state the max is 8 GB in one slot.

But I have seen ads on Amazon for 255 G7's with the A4 processor and 16 GB of memory, such as this one...

https://www.amazon.com/HP-G7-Business-Bluetooth-Professional/dp/B07Y882SJK/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=255+...

So, either the ad is wrong, or someone took them apart and successfully added 16 GB of memory in the one slot.

I have two 255 G7's with the A4 processor I bought on eBay from a PC recycler.

They came stock from HP with 8 GB of memory and a 256 GB SATA M.2 SSD, and W10 Pro Education.

I looked at the service videos on how to take them apart, and it looked pretty easy to do it.

Was it hard to get the bottom cover off?

I was thinking of experimenting on one of them and replacing the 8 GB chip with a 16 GB chip, but I'm still on the fence.

Hi:

it depends on what model 255 G7 you have.

Mine has the A4 processor, and there is only one memory slot which takes a max of 8 GB.

The ones with the Ryzen processors have two memory slots and can take 2 x 8 GB of memory.

hi ,yes sorry im very stupid with these things. Ended up getting 8gb ddr4 2666mhz so-dimm single rank as that was the recommended ram for this laptop. This one only has one slot so i replaced the 4gb with the 8gb and seems to work fine. Is that the max or can i add another slot ? Would like to run revit on this laptop and need preferably 16gb.

Guide to upgrading or replacing the DDR4 RAM Memory in the HP 250/255 G7 laptop. This is a fairly easy task to complete, requiring just a small Philips head screwdriver and plastic pry tool. The laptops takes DDR4-2666 modules, such as these: https://amzn.to/2HgPqSA
