Hi:
You can't add another memory slot because the processor was not designed to run the memory in dual channel mode.
As far a 16 GB...I have looked on the Crucial website, HP service manual and they all state the max is 8 GB in one slot.
But I have seen ads on Amazon for 255 G7's with the A4 processor and 16 GB of memory, such as this one...
So, either the ad is wrong, or someone took them apart and successfully added 16 GB of memory in the one slot.
I have two 255 G7's with the A4 processor I bought on eBay from a PC recycler.
They came stock from HP with 8 GB of memory and a 256 GB SATA M.2 SSD, and W10 Pro Education.
I looked at the service videos on how to take them apart, and it looked pretty easy to do it.
Was it hard to get the bottom cover off?
I was thinking of experimenting on one of them and replacing the 8 GB chip with a 16 GB chip, but I'm still on the fence.

Hi:
it depends on what model 255 G7 you have.
Mine has the A4 processor, and there is only one memory slot which takes a max of 8 GB.
The ones with the Ryzen processors have two memory slots and can take 2 x 8 GB of memory.

hi ,yes sorry im very stupid with these things. Ended up getting 8gb ddr4 2666mhz so-dimm single rank as that was the recommended ram for this laptop. This one only has one slot so i replaced the 4gb with the 8gb and seems to work fine. Is that the max or can i add another slot ? Would like to run revit on this laptop and need preferably 16gb.
