The battery is smart and has a control chip inside. It stops power from charging the cells when charge hits 100%. There is a lot of urban legend out there about laptop batteries. Most of it is wrong. You can keep the laptop plugged in all the time without problems. I am typing this on a laptop where I do exactly that. It's on 24/7. Every couple months I take it off the AC adapter and run it down to about 20% and then charge it back up just to keep it calibrated. The only thing you want to avoid is running the power down below about 15%. Definitely do not start using it on battery every day and only charging it when it reaches 15% then take it off AC power again. This will put cycles on the battery and WILL shorten the life.
