Pavilion : 15-cc1xx laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Im planning on upgrading my 15-cc1xx laptop bought in late 2018. Need to know if a whitelist exists for this. Would like to upgrade the WIFI card to a Ax210 intel.  Also be good to know if the laptop does indeed have the 2x2 existing antennas.

1 have  ASUS ax wifi 6 at home and ATT fiber optic 1 gig into house.

If i can get advice, that would be great, please

Anytime.

Glad you found an alternative solution.

I won't upgrade one PC in the house to W11, because it is the one my wife uses, and she is happy with W10.

Hi:

HP does not release any info regarding which models have whitelists or not.

What I have learned through the years is this...

All HP notebooks made in 2011 and earlier have BIOS whitelists.

Most (85% - 95%) made in 2012 have BIOS whitelists.

It's about 50 -50 for those made in 2013

It's about 90 -10 for those made in 2014 or later do not have BIOS whitelists.

What model wifi adapter does your notebook have installed now?

Some of the wifi adapters offered in that model series came with one antenna in the PC, and some came with two.

Hi Paul

I appreciate your help again.

the laptop has a Realtek Wifi Dual band Ac 3168  in it.  I think this may be the single antenna variety.

So need to figure out if I can update this with an Intel Ax210 based card  2x2  (Intel AX210NGW), along with an Intel AX210 driver install.

1. will the bios need updating? is there a specific bios paq for it?

I2. If the Intel based Ax210 will work, assuming Intel driver install, then do I :

 a. use existing antenna (if dual )

b. Upgrade to 2 antennas ( if one antenna ( i know ...complete disassembly )

c. or can use an external USB-C based antenna with the AX-210 card 2x2

I appreciate your advice, sir

You're very welcome.

The Intel 3168 AC card should have two wifi antennas attached to it, so that is good.

I would try a more conservative wifi card...

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # L35282-005.

You can find this model wifi card on eBay.  Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Intel cards must be non-vPro or they definitely won't work.

I don't think you will need to update the BIOS.  None of the updates add support for newer wifi adapters.

If you want to update the BIOS, it appears that F.36 is the latest one available.

Use the existing antenna wires and connect them to the same corresponding terminals on the wifi card as they are now.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice.  My wife uses this laptop for work and did not want me opening it up and messing with the hardware..

I looked for other solutions and came up with a DLink external DWA- Ax1850 USB antenna..

Simple install. attached to SS USB 3.0 port. installed driver after disabling the internal WIFI card,.

Did require finding the right place for the antenna, but easy using free app from Play store.

Went from 250/150 mbps on Asus Zen Wifi 6 router to 450/425 mbps same router etc.

so for all those reluctant to open up the laptop, you have 2 options.  The internal Card that Paul recommends or the D-Link DWA-Ax1850 external usb antenna.
