Windows 10 version 1703 will not install on HP Pavilion Notebook  17-g188ca product # N5YS8UA#ABL purchased in Dec 2015.  The error message is BIOS needs to be upgraded before you can upgrade.  I have HP support assistant on  my notebook set up for automatic updates but when I checked which  BIOS version I have it said BIOS F. 19  05-27-2016.  When I checked the BIOS up dates on the web I found there were several since 05/27/2016.

Do I need to install all of them or just the most recent one to be up to date?

When I do that should the windows upgrade install?

Why doesn't HP support assistant keep my notebook up to date?

I am curious, did any of you check if the latest version of KB4023057 (September 28, 2017) is installed? For all intents and purposes, it might be that Microsoft was/is at fault here. Starting the update process, the updater states all is fine. Only at the last moment it fails and writes an entry in the compatibility log. KB4023057 suggests improvements in the compatibility area.

KB40223 57 was installed Sept 28, 2017. It has not helped.

Hi,

Just in answer to latest bios updates: If you need to update the bios then you normally  would need only install the latest bios.

As a quite experienced user of Windows and pcs but not so techno minded as some...this might help to explain why...

As I understand it, when you "update" the bios you do actually REPLACE the previous version.

That is why it is so important you have ac power while doign the update, otherwise if your power did fail it could be at a critical point where your bios then becomes incompletely loaded or corrupted and your pc might not boot up at all.

I do get feedback from time to time such as your pc or laptop may not need the latest updates. From what I can see HP software will inform you if you need the bios update or not and I tend to rely on that information.

I am not sure why HP or other pcs dont automatically update bios but it may simply be that the developers etc just feel it is better the user is more in control of the process...ie jsut to check he really does have model number xyz and he has his pc plugged in etc.

Hope that helps some of the newer users to pcs etc and windows.

The 17-g188ca model is a special case. All laptops with the AMD A10-8700p CPU must have the BIOS updated to add some specific Code or the Creators Build 1703 of Windows 10 will not install. Once the new BIOS is installed it will work fine.

In reply to the post that once I install the F09 bios update this will allow the Windows creator update to windows 10 to work fine.

I have two of the same models and I updated both bios to F09 as required when I first bought them early this year.

I cannot get Windows 1703 update to install because despite having the latest bios as that is not the problem for me.

The problem is the message telling me to remove the program that I cannot find anywhere to uninstall. I can see similar named programs but not the one in queston (then name somewhat escapes me now but it is something like HP orbigtal x 360.

I have since HIDDEN The update so now at least my two laptops wont keep trying to update it wasting my time.

From what I can see it is not a secuirty update and hopefully for now at least I wont need this update till this problem is reosolved.

The feedback so far giving the anser is : I have read suggesting there is a problem of compatibility which HP needs to address seems to be the problem. If not a problem with HP software, hardware for models such as I have, they should tell Microsoft of the problem and help us poor sods stuck with the problem of not being able to update our Windows with the 1703 (windows creator) update.

Was told in thsis forum to update bios with latest version but was concerned that my Pc was not compatable so I called HP support and the person could not tell me but if paid the one fee which I did he could contact me with some one who could help.  That person installed the most recent bios update and windows creator has installed and my PC is up to date

But I have a new problem.

Now I need to sort out my data as I can find pictures and documents using my dektop shotcut but they do not show up when I use This PC.

Hope this does cost more sort out.

Do not why when HP had to update the bios for my PC why the first agent could have told me  the update was compatible with my PC and I could have installed in myself.  seem to be some what of a ripoff.

@Ray_582 and @123help, did you check for the compatibility update from Microsoft kb4023057 of September 28, 2017.
It states:"This update includes reliability improvements that affect the update components" and "This update includes files and resources that address issues that affect the update processes"

I ordered 64Gb SD card to plug into my Stream x360 11-AA010ND to safe me the hassle of using an external drive during upgrade. Once that card is in, I will do a next attempt.

My PC is HP Pavilion Note Book 17-G188ca energy Star. I had to update the bios using version F.45 Rev. A to be able update to Windows 10 version 1703.  That has been done successfully.  As a result of the bios update I assume my old recovery disc will not be of any use.

If that is correct will I be able to create a new rovery disc?
