Pavilion X360

I have a Pavilion X360 and an issue with the keyboard.

When I boot up my laptop the 9 (nine), o (oh), l (el) and . (period)

keys don’t work, until I constantly press any of them for 20 or 30 seconds.

They will then work for the most part continue to work until the laptop sits idle for a while

and I have to go through the whole process again.  It is strange that if you look

at a keyboard the 9,o,l,. keys are in a diagonal line down the keyboard.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.

I have removed and reinserted the keyboard ribbon cable, and still have the issue.

No other keys are affected.

It seems once one of the keys starts working they all work and if I am active on the

laptop they will continue to work until the laptop sits for awhile, even with the lid up.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Replacing the keyboard on this model of X360, 14t-cd000 involves disassembling the entire

laptop from the bottom up.

Have you tried using an external keyboard and check if the issue persists? By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a software issue.

 

Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant. 
  2. Check for updates. 
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.  

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

Also, check for any pending windows update. Reboot the computer. 

 

If the issue persists, let us run a test on the hardware components of the PC

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. Perform Component Test > Keyboard. Share the result on your next post.

Things seem better now.  I had updated Windows and the HP updates recommended.  I had also tried an

external keyboard which worked.

They must have pushed out an update that seems to have fixed my issue.

Thank you very much.

If this persists I will do the Hardware component test.

Still doing the same thing..  No 9, o , l , . ,  keys type anything unless I play around with them for a minute or two. then they are fine until the laptop rests.

And other suggestions would be appreciated.  Otherwise I will purchase a new keyboard, which isn't the easiest laptop keyboard to replace, and I have done 5 or 6.  Others can be replaced by removing the front cover, this laptop keyboard has to be accessed from the bottom cover, removing all the laptop components.

I recommend you run a test on the keyboard to make sure whether it is a hardware or a software issue before replacing it.
