Hp notebook 15 db000x
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good day hp community

I'm in a bit of a fix presently. I was using my notebook extensively for about 8 or so hours while charging and as I was about to turn off the system I noticed that the battery icon looked odd (see attached photo).

I had replaced the battery recently because the former battery was dead. I've been having issues turning it on without first plugging it in but I digress...

In a bid to fix the newly discovered problem, I went on YouTube and came across a fix that involved uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI compliant battery and Microsoft AC adapter which I did. I restarted and the icon stayed the same. I checked hp diagnostics and it reported no battery. I shut it down hoping it'll all go away in the morning.

Fast forward to this morning and the charging indicator light isn't turning on, the PC isn't turning on either. I need help getting the PC running again as I'm at my wit's end. Any help at all would be great.

Hello @DanteNG01

(1) Either the battery causes a short circuit or there is another technical problem.

(2) Please disconnect/remove internal battery and try to turn on with ac adapter. Does this work ?

(3) Please report your results

Kind regards

I might take a while as it's an internal battery..a few hours maybe.

Also am I to be wary of anything at all while opening the laptop/ removing the battery? And would it be safe to turn it on without the back cover?

I also mentioned uninstalling the Microsoft AC adapter, could that in any way be the source of the problem or uninstalling the driver does not have any adverse effects?

(1) If you do not touch any electronic components with tools or your hand after switching on, nothing will happen. You can simply place the notebook on a wooden table.

(2) Follow instructions in the Maintenance and Service Guide

The driver reinstalls automatically on next boot.

Before opening up laptop I think it's worth it to try power reser (if you haven't already).

Unplug charger, push in power button and hold >15 sec. Plug in charger and try if anything changes.
