Hello again ericmartinez,
Thank you for the updated information on your issue. The error 0xe0ef000e is usually an indication that your Master Boot Record is corrupted, but as you have a new hard drive I believe in this case it is the recovery discs you are using. I recommend that you order a new copy of your recovery media which is still available for your computer. You can order online at the HP Pavilion dm4-1253cl Entertainment Notebook PC support - Order software and driver media page.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

hello all , i was just looking for the same error code, hp foutcode 0xe0ef00e, hope it can help how it occured, to exclude certain posiblilies, I do have windows 10 64 bit , since the update recently i started to get in trouble mainly with drivers and more all kind of stuff on my HP 110-214eb desktop-pc
i recieved the error when i tried to save some date from hard drive to an external seagate harddrive, just needed pictures to back up ....for some reason it did not work, tried another usb but the same problem over again, i was thinking of corrupt master boot record or harddrive general , but it seems in this case above with the new drive that is not the case (i could also repair the mbr over cmd and that seemed ok , main reason probabely was that i tried absolutely to repair the windows myself and messed up in the end 🙂
but pretty sure i am aswell that my drive were i tried to make back up are ok, tried with new devices and same problem
So i just guest that the error code is not neseceraaly connected whith recovery media , but is genral conneted whith back up manager somehow, ....
my self i could learn from the posing above it was not exclusively connected with windows 10 (but still dont get completely the uefi drive stuff and legacy boot, do know what it means but get contradictory options trying to install windows again :), and possibly there is nothing really wrong with the harddrive so maybe just drivers or so , hope this info was halpfull for others too ..;
ps is there a way i was wondering to find out about errormessanges, how does the coding work or is there somewere a list or way to learnt to know a bit what they mean £??? thanks , greetings

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding boot errors with the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.
- Did this happen after a power surge or outage?
- Did you run diagnostics on the computer to eliminate hardware issues?
- For a start please run complete hardware diagnostics on the computer from this link: http://hp.care/2ueK8yq to ensure that the hardware is fully functional.
- If any component fails, please make a note of the failure code. The computer needs to be repaired or serviced by contacting HP phone support. If it is out of warranty by more than 3 or 4 years then please check with a local Best Buy or Staples technician to get it fixed as service options with HP may not be available.
Otherwise, you could contact HP phone support by following these steps:
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately. If the unit is under warranty repair services is taken care of by the manufacturer’s warranty
- If diagnostics pass, please order the original recovery media from HP phone support and perform a complete system recovery to factory settings from this link: http://hp.care/2gOjR7d and follow steps in the correct option that matches your current issue.
- This should do the trick for you. However, you will need to contact HP Tech support to order recovery media if you don’t have them.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
