My 455 G7 was bought in July 2021 and the automatic update bricked it on 22nd May

I contacted HP Customer Services who promised to repair it for free but two promised engineer visits have not happened so I have had to buy a new laptop to get back to working

I will be taking HP to court (UK) to get the repair done and the cost of the new laptop back

Their customer service is shocking - they basically don't give a stuff about us all losing our laptops and desktops due to their fault

Hello dears,
Finally I repaired my 455 g7 using a local repairer.
I paid almost 100$. Now, It is working, but when num-lock is ON, half of the keyboard is passing numbers instead of letters.
I guess the repairer have used wrong chip for bios.

Fantastic experience, having HP Laptop.  some times I turn on num-lock key and make typing to have fun with my Laptop.

it seems it not only effects probooks because i have an Elitebook 855 G7 with exactly the same issue.

I just had a panic seeing that 1.17.1 has been pushed via Automatic Windows Updates, however this has installed fine onto a machine which I had on 1.16, and indicates that we might be through the bulk of this issue. We are awaiting HP to organise repairs for our broken machines now with long lead times, but the end is in sight for this problem.

I successfuly bring laptop back to life by flashing 1.17.1 BIOS file to the BIOS chip. I extracted original exe update file and form bin file I deleted few first and last offsets to match size and original readed image from dead laptop. No need to desolder chip from the board - just clip in SO8 socket with powered off laptop connected to the power supply.

I uploaded bin file I used. All ID information was restored form EC during update (see pics attached) and laptop is fully working.

Today (23 July) i got awaiting update from Microsoft Update: HP Inc. - Firmware 1.17.1.0. However, I have disabled updates for drivers/software but the bios was downloaded ready to install on next boot. Same version as on HP website (Rev A). Is it fixed now? Safe to install?

Safe to install
