I replaced all 4 ink cartridges with HP INK.
One of the colors is stated “non-HP chip detected”.
all ink is authentic HP ink.
Now I cannot print anything. Not even in black.
please help.
thank you

Hi @JeanneLB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP printer is showing “non-HP chip detected” even though you installed genuine HP cartridges, and now nothing prints. Let’s go step by step to fix this.

Power cycle the printer

Turn the printer OFF and unplug it for 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and power it on.

This often clears false cartridge errors.

Remove and reseat the cartridges

Open the ink access door and remove all cartridges.

Check that each cartridge:

Matches the correct slot (color → color, black → black)

Has all protective tape removed

Clicks fully into place

Reseat cartridges firmly and close the door.

Check the cartridge contacts

Wipe the gold/copper contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.

Make sure there’s no dust, paper fibers, or dried ink blocking the connection.

Use original HP cartridges

Confirm the cartridges are HP-branded, not refilled or cloned.

Even new cartridges sold by other resellers may be incompatible if they’re not genuine HP.

Update printer firmware

Connect the printer to the internet or use HP Smart app.

Check for firmware updates and install any available.

HP occasionally releases updates that improve cartridge recognition.

Check for stuck jobs

Clear the print queue on your computer.

Sometimes a blocked job can prevent any printing until resolved.

Test black-only printing

Remove all color cartridges temporarily and try printing black only.

If it prints, the issue is isolated to the color cartridge flagged as non-HP.

Reset the printer to defaults (if error persists)

On the printer control panel:
Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore Defaults / Reset

Power cycle again after reset.

If the problem continues

Replace the cartridge flagged as “non-HP chip” with another new HP cartridge.

Sometimes a defective chip on a genuine cartridge triggers this error.a

I hope this helps.
