I recently ordered a HP Envy 15-U010DX from ebay and the seller said that the battery was bad (having to be plugged in to stay on) and that the touchpad does work however it is non responsive in some areas.. Any ideas on what type of battery I need to replace the bad one and what I can do to fix the touchpad?

Hi @oganifrun

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you are facing issues with the battery and touchpad on your device. I recommend first running the HP Battery Test to confirm the battery's health, as it may need replacement if it no longer holds a charge, and then updating the touchpad drivers and testing the touchpad in the BIOS to determine whether the issue is hardware or software related. If you need assistance identifying the correct replacement battery I will be happy to help. I would request you to please follow the steps to isolate the issue.

Battery only works when the AC adapter is connected

Step 1: Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • Shut down the notebook.
  • Connect the AC adapter.
  • Turn on the notebook and repeatedly press Esc until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  • Run the Battery Test.
  • Note the test result:
  • Passed – Continue with the next steps.
  • Failed or Replace – The battery has reached the end of its life and should be replaced.

Step 2: Power Reset.

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter.
  • Disconnect all external devices.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter and turn the notebook on.
  • Check whether the battery is detected and begins charging.

Step 3: Unintall Drivers

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Batteries.
  • Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart the notebook.
  • Windows will automatically reinstall the battery driver.

Step 5: Replace the Battery (if the test fails)    https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2268927-1713329-16 Follow the steps for callibration.

Touchpad has unresponsive areas

Step 1: Check in BIOS

  • Shut down the notebook.
  • Turn it on and repeatedly press Esc.
  • Press F10 to enter the BIOS.
  • Test whether the touchpad responds while navigating the BIOS menus.
  • If it is also unresponsive in BIOS, the issue is likely hardware-related.
  • If it works normally in BIOS, continue with the Windows troubleshooting.

Step 2: Uninstall the Touchpad Driver

  • Press Windows + X and open Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click the touchpad device (Synaptics or ELAN) and select Uninstall driver.
  • If no update is found, uninstall the device and restart the notebook.

Step 3: Run Windows Update

  • Open Settings > Windows Update.
  • Install all available updates, including Optional driver updates.
  • Restart the notebook.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
