Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

There seems to be missing several advanced options in the Power Plan section of Windows 10. My desktop has several, like advanced options for Hard Drive time shut down, USB, PCI Express, etc. I need to have these to change the time it takes for external Hard Drives to shut down, because right now it shuts down after just a few minutes. Also, I need more options like High Performance.

Help is appreciated.

Unknown desktop and unknown laptop (there are a LOT of "Spectre" systems) are two different types of hardware.

What is available in one is not necessarily available in the other.

Lots of "maybe" and "unknown" hardware and connections.

For example,

If your laptop hardware and Operating System (Windows 10 Pro) supports the option, create a custom / new plan for "high performance".

Search on the 'net for information on how to create your plan.

Some articles are better than others - avoid doing anything you don't understand - this is not "edit the registry" risk level, but you can hurt rather than fix what you touch.

What else?

If the mystery external hard drive is connected to the laptop computer via USB,

Disable the USB Selective Suspend feature in Advanced > USB Settings

Read about the USB Setting here (or search for any article on the subject):

How to disable Windows 10's 'USB selective suspend' setting

General Reference - Windows 10 Advanced Power Settings

Windows 10 power options missing on new laptop

More specific to the topic with suggestions to add / adjust the setup:

Windows TenForums> Missing Advanced Power Options

Warning >> Solutions include editing the Registry

Edit the Registry at your own risk

and

Edit the Registry ONLY after having backed up (Export) the entire Registry to a location it can be retrieved if needed.

What else?

Check the Device Manager for the connection.

If the Device Manage can detect the device and properly identify it, the controls in Properties for that device might include Power Management.  This is generally not a "timeout" but rather the device is enabled to "stay on" in spite of the internal power needs of the laptop.

General Example:

Device Manager > Right Click on Biometrics > Right Click on Synaptics Fingerprint sensor > Tab Power Management > Clear / UNCHECK box for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" > OK

There is section in the Device Manager for "Universal Serial Bus controllers"

What else?

Is what you want in the BIOS ?

Maybe, though in the case of a Spectre non-commercial system, the Advanced options section is not available.

This is one of the times that having a business class system makes a difference.

Hi,

thank you for the information. I went and checked out these different options. Unfortunately I still can't find the options I'm looking for in the "advanced settings" in the Power Plan section. Specifically I'm looking for the option to change the time the PC takes to turn off drives and external drives, as currently they turn off after just 1-2 minutes. My Desktop Windows 10 PC has these options and I need to find these on my Spectre x360.

Best regards.
