HP zBook 15v G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey guys @HP, check this scenario:

Notebook: HP zBook 15v G5

Dockstation: HP Thunderbolt Dock 230W G2

1. Download and launch new dockstation firmware update 1.0.57.1 Rev.A (sp95855.exe)

2. Update WILL FAIL, and as a result of that:

3. No display

4. No Thunderbolt Windows driver

5. Impossible to install Thunderbolt driver sp96282.exe separately

Have a nice day!

Juntek

Hello Dragon-Fur,

Thank you for your prompt reply and the tips. I have checked the prerequisires of this new driver and, sadly, my laptop is not on the list of supported hardware.

Unfortunate, indeed.  The newer driver supersedes the one you tried to install, too.

@Paul_Tikkanen - Words of wisdom?  TIA

Hi, @Dragon-Fur

Unfortunately, I don't.

Ah, thanks.    I'd rather have been "off track".  Smiling.

Thanks. Below is the summary of what I did so far:

Using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI  I have verified that the Thunderbolt hardware is working.

I have also read that on some HP laptops it is neccesary to enable certain Thunderbolt security options in BIOS to make it visible to the Windows OS, but there are no options regarding Thunderbolt in my zBook 15v G5, even after upgrading BIOS to the nevest version F.21

On C: partition I have found original Thunderbolt drivers from Intel, but I can't install them as well, because setup.msi ends with error code 1603 (the same as the newest driver available).

I've also tried manually adding the driver by pointing to the *.inf file from the Device Manager. The driver has been added to the devices tree, but it doesn't work.

I want to avoid re-installing Windows OS for now, because there is no guarantee that it will help solve my issue and maybe there is a better solution.

For now my temporary workaround is to use separate HDMI cable for connecting monitor directly to the HDMI socket in mylaptop. The rest of the cables (USB keyboard, USB mouse , network) is connected to the docking station and is working very well.

I can't install Thuderbolt Software for now, because it requires that Thunderbolt Driver Controller is installed first.

Best Regards,

Juntek
