Hello
My laptop came bundled with Windows 8.1 which I upgraded to Windows 10. But I saw with my friend that his Linux Mint 18 runs flawlessly and without any virus and virus threats sine 3 years.
Is anything void if I opt for a dual boot with Linux as my primary usage OS?

Hello @deepak1501
Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.
It's great to see one additional person considering moving to Linux.
Straight to your question: No, nothing will be void if you use a different operating system.
Some people experience issues booting 2 OS at the same time (Windows 8.1/10 or Linux due to BIOS/UEFI restrictions). But you can try or you can move to full-time Linux and use Windows as a virtual OS inside Linux Mint.
I recommend you take some time (a couple of hours) and do some reading because Linux is a different world. Here are useful resources:

Linux Mint is a distro based on Ubuntu and Debian.

Thank you for all the encouragement and links. I have good amount of experiemce with Unix/Linux.In fact I am certified on Sun solaris which was very popular for mission critical applications a decade and half ago.
I have installed Mint 18.3 with a dual boot configuration and I am sure there will be no false and real alarms about viruses, system slowing down etc. I am writing this answer from my Linux Mint 18 machine.
Hardware manufacurers go to a long extent for esuring that windows should be the only os used. They make it difficult for Linux to be installed on such computers, what with the UEFI mess.
