Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently had to reset this Notebook because I forgot my BIOS password.  When I reinstalled Windows 10, everything seemed fine and then when I got to the login screen for Windows, I couldn't get my cursor to go to the box where I enter my PIN, and once I navigated the cursor to the login box, I went to type my PIN and the keyboard wasn't functioning either. Assuming I did something wrong, I re-installed Windows 10 again, but first I went into the start up menu and the keys on the keyboard navigated on the screen and so did the mouse/cursor...full funtionality. But, once again when I got to the Windows Login screen, no response on the screen from the keyboard or cursor. Any idea why this is happening? I have updated drivers and an external/Bluetooth mouse and keyboard work like normal. Also, once I'm in WIndows, they still don't function or respond on the screen.

Hello CutiePie,

I have been working through a similar problem with my hp pavilion desktop hp wired keyboard not working. Same as you I cannot use the wired keyboard to logon or type anything. Though my wired mouse still works. I am lucky that I have a wireless logitech that works and can use while I try to solve this problem.

This may be an issue with microsoft windows updates and drivers.  I have been working the problem at microsoft support community but none of the proposed solutions have worked so far. Here is a link to my problem, though I think it will give you a headache to follow along. Here > Keyboard not working Microsoft Community

I have also posted about the issue here on HP community support. If you have solved your keyboard issues please let me know how. If I find a solution I will let you know.

Thank you SO much for replying to me. I actually fixed it and the keyboard and touchpad on my laptop worked wonderfully for about 6 hours until I did an "update" through my settings. I updated and the mouse pad stopped responding and the next second, so did my keyboard.
i have a wireless mouse and keyboard but it's not the point...I'm sure you understand that. I paid a lot of money for this computer to have the main compnents not work, is maddening. And, it's one of Windows Updates, that is at fault...I am furious. I am unsure what I did, as I have tried countless options, reinstalling Windows, Restoring, etc. So, now I am unsure of how to get back to the stable state I was in yesterday.

Have you had any better luck ?

Hi I understand how frsturating this can be, I have been working on the issue for a month with a microsoft community volunteer.  The issue relates to windows october 2018 update which was withdrawn and re-released in November. Both microsoft and hp are aware of the issues relating to new windows drivers and hp keyboard but a solution may not be available till after the january 2019 update.

If you shutdown your computer completely and then start and pre 'esc' key continously that should get you into a series of HP diagnotic and systems info that are pre windows.  WIthin the hp component test there is a keyboard and touchpad. Run the keyboard and touchpad tests. if they are successfull that will tell you that the issue is with windows and drivers not the actual computer.

With my system there is a driver that refuses to run. If you go into 'device manager' then 'human interface devices' and look for any tiny yellow triangles this will help you find out which drivers are not working. Mine is a 'USB input device' that won't run but since your using a laptop it might be something different.

You can also open system information file (type 'info' from start menu) If you look down the list of compenents there should be a 'problem devices' this might give you more information if a driver is not working properly. Hopefully this will help you find out what/where the specific issue is.

I'm off to work the problem on my computer now. I will let you know if I find a solution.

Update: I created a review summary of my attempts to solve this problem that you may like to read over in HP Community Support: HERE

Hi,

Sorry to hear you still have issues.. May I recommend the following.

1) Go to the magnifying glass down the bottom left and type in 'device manager'

Do the keyboard and mouse have an exclamation mark over them? if so try either updating the driver OR removing the devices and rescanning for hardware changes by right clicking on any item and selecting that option from the menu.

IF the problem is not resolved.

2) Enter BIOS and tell it to Load Defaults and save and exit

IF the problem is not resolved.

3) Did you UPGRADE your BIOS?, if so, maybe beneficial to return to your old BIOS version.

Good luck
