Sounds like the hard drive was damaged. It could also just have lost a good connection.Try reseating to be sure it is attached securely-it may then boot. If not a retail hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least as large a capacity as the original to use HP Recovery Discs to reinstall Windows. For instance if you have a 320gb hdd you could use a 500gb but not a 250gb hdd.
If you need more help please post back with full Model number and Product number as listed on the Service Tag attached to bottom of laptop.(may be under battery)

Hello CherylG. I too am getting the install operating disk. tried f10 but got no boot disk found. After reading your reply to another, I thought I could reply with my model and product number. I have the Pavilion dv6. Product # is W4-JGD-PWG4Y-J6Q3P-TBB7M-2MWKH. I think that's right, it's a little smudged on the end! Thank you in advance for your help! Lisa.

I ran all the tests & then hit "continue", as it said to do, then it says "windows is loading files", then when it goes to start up, "Recovery Manager" pops up & it says to unplug all external devices & MAKE SURE the internet is enabled, before I continue. The problem is, it wont let me enable the internet! So, now, what am I supposed to do? I have a Pavillion dv4, 1430us.
