Well, no.

 

You can of course use the service of a professional or bring it to an PC repair shop, but I suggst you try it on your own - it's very easy and don't be afraid, follow the instructions step by step. Easier for an end user would be the official solution but you can try with either of the options.

Im also having this issue however I can get onto the F11 screen but not sure when to go from there is i could possibly have some help!

Could you elaborate on the "same thing" - just confirm is it restarting ?

When did it start ? Do you connect it some update or change on your side ?

What I meant from the "same thing," is that my laptop will turn off and on by it's self. I have done the first method, but it did not work, just like azariaa. The problem first started when my laptop had a boot loop, the next day it just kept on turning of and on. (Alyintics will come soon.)

What you and the origianal poster describe looks like restarting to me which means your PC actually starts, stays on for a couple of seconds and then restarts. This seems to be "another version" of the boot loop. It looks like Windows fails to start. Please, correct me if I am wrong.

 

It's good your hardware diagnsotics pass because this means the problem is not related to parts/hardware.Also, your BIOS is OK and your hardware diagnostics partition is there. Looks like Windows issue.

 

If you did try the System Restore option and it did not help, and if you have never created different means of back-up, there is nothing else to be done besides reinstalling Windows

 

* Do you have any important files inside the Windows installation, which you haven't backed-up ? If you do, let me know and do no not reinstalled yet. I might be able to post instructions which you might be able to follow to extract data. *

 

 

 

Here are instructions how to clean install/reinstall Windows 10:

Windows reinstallation / clean installation :

 

- You can directly download Windows 10 ISO from MS site or download >> Media creation tool from Microsoft site, create installation DVD or installation USB  and  proceed with clean installation/reinstallation.

 

Download:

>> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

 

Make sure you select the proper version (64 bit / Home or Pro) if asked.

 

Media Creation tool will always provide you with the latest Windows version/build - now 1809.

 

- When download completes, you will need to write  the ISO image and boot from a bootable media. You will need a blank USB pendrive (min 8 GB capacity). Use the Media Creation tool.

 

 

When ready with the USB drive or with the DVD:

 

Please, shutdown the computer using the power button.

Insert the Windows USB thumdrive prepared previously

Power on the PC.

As soon as you press the power-on button, start hitting the Esc button repeatedly (like tap-tap-tap).

This should open a HP Startup Menu

 

Choose F9 to open Boot options. Select the USB thumb drive as a boot option.

 

- Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 10. Perform clean installation/custom installation (not repair).

Delete all existing partitions and install Windows on Disc 0 Unallocated space

- After successful Windows installation, install drivers taken from HP web site or via Windows Update/Device Manager >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03330139

 

- Make sure Windows is Activated by going to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Activation

 

- You might want to stop some of the Windows Telemetry by using free tools such as Spybot AntiBeacon or DWS Lite

Hello.  So my computer has been doing the same thing all of a sudden.  turn on, turn off.  I am able to eventually to get the computer booted.  I was able to run a dianostics test and it saud that my Hard Drive Long DST check failed.  To me that would me my hard drive is on it's way out.  So my quaestions are as follows.  

 

1.  I f I purchase a new hard drive can would I just need to install it and also purchase the usb mentioned for the OP from computer surgeons and get the new hard drive back to being operational?

2.  Since I can still long on (not sure for how much longer) is there a way to save everything on a storgage device from my current computer that would load onto the new hard drive to make it operational?  

3 Or do I need to do something else to load everything onto a new hard drive?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

 

These symptoms can be caused by lots of things - it's good you found the root cause - broken/faulty hard disk drive.

The answers of your questions are:

1) Yes. You need to replace the faulty component and then install back an operating system like Windows

You can reinstall Windows via HP Recovery Media from HP directly or 3rd parties like Computer Surgeon. There are also other means depending on your Windows version

2) Yes. You definitely should back up your important files NOW, as soon as possible to keep them. Since the failure is current, there is no guarantee you will succeed but you should try

3) n/a  - best is back up now if you can boot to Windows (question 2)

 

@Youther  , in order to provide you with somewhat more specific and full instructions, please let me know which Windows do you use now  (7, 8, 10 ?) and what is your HP product model and product number (p/n) -> here is how to find the information >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
