Hi, My HP Envy TouchSmart 17 Notebook PC is not able to boot up. I have tried to follow the https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/System-will-not-boot-to-windows-10/td-p/649034... instruction to do the System recovery but all my restore points with the following message:

System Restore failed while restoring the directory from the restore point.

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer if the factory reset or system restore functions aren't working, would be to clean install W10 as follows...

To reinstall W10...Use the Media Creation Tool.  Make the 64 bit installation media.

If you need to recover any files, do not delete or format any partitions, just let windows install over the current Windows partition and W10 will create a Windows.old folder.  After W10 installs, you can explore the Windows.old folder, copy and paste your folders and files from the your old user profile to the new one.   Then once you are sure you got everything, you can delete the Windows.old folder by using the disk cleanup utility>click on the cleanup system files button on the lower left side of the disk cleanup window.

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, since your PC is not working.

You can also try to repair the current installation by selecting the 'Repair your computer' menu on the lower left side of the 'Install Now' screen.

W10 will find the product key in the BIOS, install and will automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

If you upgraded the original operating system to W10, if you are asked to enter a product key, select the I don't have a product key option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.

4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

5. Select which media you want to use:
6. USB flash drive.  Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Then you can install the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.
