Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hello!
I need to recover my computer. I can't find a recovery disk to order. I have updated my computer to windows 10, My product number is lf157ua#aba (if you need that). I believe I need a disk to recover it. I tried a ubs but it didn't work. My computer opens up and says "RECOVERY your pc/decive needs to repair. the opercating system couldn't because the HAL  is missing or contains errors. File:WINDOWS/system32/hal.dll Error code 0xc00000e9 You'll need to use recovery tools. mif you have anuinstallation media contact PC/device manufacture.

That is the meassge i wrotw to HP support but my warinty is expired so they would give me no support. I have really liked HP but the fact they don't give suport to ALL their computer is not okay. If my computer was maybe 10 years older or more I would maybe understand. Okay sorry this nothing to do with my issue but it made me very angry.

Unfortunately, I don't know why it isn't working either.

W10 automatically formats the usb drive and installs the installation file so that the flash drive is bootable.

You can try it on another PC just to see that you can boot from the media, and it brings you to the Install Now screen.

Then you can cancel the installation.

If it doesn't boot on another PC, something is not going right with the installation flash drive creation.

Hi:

You can reinstall W10 by using the Media Creation Tool at the link below...

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The tool will allow you to create a bootable flash drive, or you can save the download as an ISO file which you can burn to a DVD using this program below, or burn the ISO to a DVD using your DVD burners Burn ISO file option.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool

When you get to the part of the W10 installation script where you are asked to enter a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key option,' and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are reconnected to the internet.

You would only be able to order recovery media for W7, and HP no longer sells it for your model.

However, you can still order a W7 recovery disk set from this non-HP vendor for your model.

Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately the computer didn't refresh with a flash drive option showing up. To do anything. Refreshed it many times and nothing. Would it be worth it to go out and buy a DVD to upload the windows 10 onto it and see if that works?

You're very welcome.

Did you try tapping the F9 key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the boot options menu?

You should be able to select the USB flash drive from that menu, hit the enter key and the PC should boot from the USB flash drive.

If you have already tried that and your PC didn't come with a DVD drive, and it doesn't boot from the USB port, I'm not sure it will boot from a USB DVD drive either.

I just tried what you said and the computer made a loud "ding ding ding ding" noise and then took me to a message that reads "Recovery there was a problem with a device connected to your pc
An u expected I/O error was occurred
Error code 0x00000e9
This this problem can happen when a removable storage device is removed files on used or is failing. Properly connecting any removal storage in responding PC May fix this problem."

I don't know what the problem is. The usb works fine. Have used it recently.

I tried again on a different flash drive and it still did not work.

Thank you so much for your help. You have been very helpful. The computer is no spring chicken, a hand me down, and took a bad fall. It's beyond my fixing and isn't worth pouring money into. I guess it's time for me to buy a new computer. Again thank you.

Sorry that I wasn't able to help you get W10 reinstalled.
