Hello and thank you for all your help.

My laptop finally crashed. Hard drive dead.

Can I buy a new oem hard drive for $40 and get it running again?Everything else is fine and I saved all of the things that I needed on a memory stick.

Can I install the new hard drive and get it working again?

I love this laptop very much and upgraded it last year to 8gb of ram.

Do I need to install all software?

I do not have the hp disc that came with the computer.

Any help please! 🙂 Thank you!!!

You can use any retail 2.5" laptop SATA hdd- Western Digital, Seagate,Toshiba, etc. Just be sure to get one of equal or larger capacity as original to use Recovery Media. It can be larger but not smaller. For instance you have a 500GB hdd -you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

To install a new hard drive you will need Recovery Media to install Windows. Did you not make your backup Recovery Media?

Third party site has them :

I need to buy a 500 hard drive and work on getting it working again. Does that make sense to you???

I'm not sure what you mean. Owners replace hard drives all the time, boot with Recovery Media and they are back up and running within couple of hours.

If it is not worth > $40 Hard Drive , $27 for Recovery Media and a few hours of time-buy a new laptop. (You could have saved that money on Recovery Media if you had made your own using the software on the laptop)

Hello,

I know what I need to bring my computer back to life.

I need to buy a new OEM FACTORY hard drive, maybe 500 mg along with the one or two recovery discs to get it running.

I need the part numbers for the restore discs and the 500 mg or the next higher hard drive that will work.

I very much like my old HP dv7-3065dx....

I upgraded to 8 gb RAM that cost me alot of money LAST YEAR which is one reason why I want to get the laptop running again.

I really do not care what is on the old hard drive memory because I have it on my desk top computer.

So is there a different recovery part number disc OR DISCS I I need ??

My serial number is: CNF9361271   .......

The laptop is old but worked just fine until the hard drive stopped and I did not get any recovery discs when I bought it used from a used computer store.

I think I have given you all you need to tell me where to buy the two items/// HP DIRECT OR EBAY and please give me THE OEM HP PART NUMBERS SO THERE WILL BE NO MISUNDERSTANDING.

ie: Maybe two part numbers for the HP HARD DRIVES AND MAYBE TWO PART NUMBERS FOR THE RECOVERY AS I DO NOT CARE WHAT IS ON THE FAILED HARD DRIVE.

Does this make sense to you experts as I need help! 🙂

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! 🙂

Best regards,

I am not sure why you are still confused. HP no longer carries Recovery Discs for your laptop and I provided a link to a site that many people use.

You do Not need an OEM Factory hard drive. HP,in fact, does not make hard drives. They use Toshiba,Seagate and other brands in their machines. Over the years I have pulled many hard drives out to replace them-I have yet to see one branded HP. Have you actually looked at the one in your laptop?

The memory you added-what brand is it? Not HP I'm sure because just like hard drives they get memory from manufacturers who make it.

Thank you for your information.

I did not communicate correctly about my HP needs. I bought my ram from Crucibal.

So I can get a recovery disc for about $45 and a hard drive for about 50-70 bucks and have a computer guy do it fo about $60 at Fry's is what I am thinking. Sound correct? Thank you!!
