I just bought a new custom made HP laptop and there is no manual in box and there is no tag on bottom of laptop like my old . So i do i find out model number and product krey for OS? I have called HP and they said to take out battery and they said it was there. Sadly to say there was nothing and i eventually hung up because person on other end was clueless. Any ideas.

Apologies for jumping in unannounced!
Assuming your brand new computer is functional, you can create a profile of the computer that includes many details about the system, the components, and the software.
When the profile opens in your browser, save a copy for later reference. If you don't plan on making backups of your data, email the file to yourself.
If you purchased the computer from HP.com, the purchase details of the build are available in the email confirmation / Order details you received from HP. Information likely includes the Product Number / model information.
Help to find Product Number:
Yes, it is certainly best to have this information available before the computer fails.

Product key is Windows 8 & above OS, is embedded in BIOS chip on the motherboard. It'll not be printed anymore. This key will automatically activate Windows (provided it is the exact same version that came with laptop) on installation while connected to internet.
Product/model number: go to BIOS setup by tapping ESC key or f10 key as soon as you power on laptop, see your product details there.

If the system is functional, that is, you can boot into Windows, use System Information.
Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools
Select and run System Information
Look for System Model and System SKU
