I followed the instructions that came with the recovery media, it loaded for a few minutes, then the screen went black for several hours. The support hotline kept breaking up and I can't find a solution.

Thank you for that!

If you are getting hard disc short DST has fails that indicates the hard drive is failing and you likely need to look at possible replacement options. I would suggest contacting our phone support regarding that information. Please follow this link http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp enter your product number, select your product, scroll down and fill out the form. You will then be given a phone number and a case/reference number to give to the agent that answers your phone call.

Hit the "Accept as Solution" if we've reached a solution, and the "thumbs up" to say thanks for my help. 🙂
Have a great day:D

Hello there @Gatorian

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

I should be able to provide some assistance regarding the system recovery on your computer. Would you be able to post back with the product number and Windows version?

For product number click here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824

For Windows version click here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13443/windows-which-operating-system

One of the fist things I suggest is to run a system test on the computer to ensure the hardware is functioning correctly.  I recommend taking a look at this document here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1 I think it would be best to run the extensive test. It will take some time though, it can be up to an hour or more.

Please post back and let me know how it goes!

Thank you.
