I think I finally found the solution. My girlfriend ’s Dad is really good with computers so I took mine over to him he took the bottom panel off of the machine and cleared any additional dust out. He said there wasn’t much but the problem was that one of the fans wasn’t spinning so it was causing the others to work harder and overheat. He said all he did to fix it was jiggle it around and clear dust around the non spinning fan. Since he did that my machine does not over heat nor do the fans make excessive noise

I had the same overheating shutdown problem and noticed that my fans weren't starting up sometimes. Even when individual core temps were in the 90degC range. I could get them to start using various utilities but nothing was reliable. This seemed to start happening after a bios update so i reinstalled the bios from the boot menu and it seems to have fixed it. Not sure what the problem was but possibly a bios setting corrupted during the flashing.
On another note it is possible to undervolt these CPUs using utilities like Intel Extreme Tuning. This made a significant difference to the heat produced by the CPU and kept the fans spinning very quiet even at heavy loads. If your interested google your CPU model + undervolt and do some research. Only problem is its not an available bios option so you have to use software and reapply at boot everytime after a shutdown.

i Just ordered HP Spectre x360 15-df1740ng before i read all of these Horror comments about hp and its poor quality.
What i thought is to repaste the CPU with liquid metal like "Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut."
Did someone ever try something like this ?
But honestly after all this very bad stories about this spectre i just send it back to hp after it´s arrival tomorrow xD
Btw i tried a Lenovo Yoga c940 it´s also worse ^^

Forstmeister, You could.send it back. But, i really like mine, despite the heating. There's no guarantee that anything else will be much better.
Since i became aware that we shouldnt leave charger plugged in and over charge, it seems to run cooler. Monitor the heat, and if it is excessive get HP to replace heat paste and heat sink. That helped mine in early days.
Also, the tech who replaced battery said that the casing being entirely allow, is one big heat sink, made sense.

Hi Neil33,
iam an Artist (Music/Animation) who needs a mobile Workstation which is reliable (dont like apple) .
I had a Lenovo for 9 years which served me very well (it died before two weeks R.I.P)
And now iam not willing to spend nearly 2k €uros to get a poor build laptop which overheats etc.
If you type "hp spectre x360 problems" into google you get 243.000 results.
If you look @ trustpilot or reddit about the Hp company (warranty & service) you get only very bad results, never seen this before.
It seems that everybody who purchased a hp 2in1 Notebook (besides Dragonfly & Elite) had to sent it in or it bricked after the limited warranty.
So i dont trust this company.

Obviously your choice. Mine was hot, was fixed without hassle, had battery replaced under warranty, was told some info about battery i did t know. I have no complaints about service, or the laptop really. Its very nice, if youre into that sought of thing.
Not sure of point of you posting here if you are never going to own one.
