Hi @rydog3,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect all devices: Unplug all peripherals connected to the notebook (e.g., external mouse, keyboard, USB devices).
- Turn off the notebook:
- Press and hold the power button until the notebook fully shuts down.
- Remove the battery (if accessible):
- If your notebook has a removable battery, take it out.
- Press and hold the Power button: Hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to discharge any residual power in the notebook.
- Reattach the battery: If you removed the battery, reattach it.
- Reconnect the power cord: Plug in the power cord and try to turn on the notebook.
Boot into Safe Mode
- Turn off the notebook completely.
- Turn it on and immediately start pressing the F8 key: This should bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu.
- Select ‘Safe Mode’ using the arrow keys and press Enter.
Update Device Drivers
While in Safe Mode, check and update your device drivers to resolve any driver-related issues.
- Press Win+X and select Device Manager.
- Expand each category and right-click on the driver, then select ‘Update driver’.
System Recovery
If Safe Mode doesn’t resolve the issue, consider performing a system recovery.
- Press Win+I to open Settings.
- Navigate to Update & Security > Recovery.
- Click Get Started under the ‘Reset this PC’ section and follow the prompts.
HP Diagnostics Tools
Run built-in HP diagnostics tools to check for any hardware malfunctions.
- Turn off the notebook.
- Turn it on and immediately press F2 repeatedly until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu opens.
- Run the ‘System Tests’ to diagnose issues with hardware components.
I hope this helps.
