Hi @rydog3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect all devices: Unplug all peripherals connected to the notebook (e.g., external mouse, keyboard, USB devices).
  2. Turn off the notebook:
    • Press and hold the power button until the notebook fully shuts down.
  3. Remove the battery (if accessible):
    • If your notebook has a removable battery, take it out.
  4. Press and hold the Power button: Hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to discharge any residual power in the notebook.
  5. Reattach the battery: If you removed the battery, reattach it.
  6. Reconnect the power cord: Plug in the power cord and try to turn on the notebook.

Boot into Safe Mode

  1. Turn off the notebook completely.
  2. Turn it on and immediately start pressing the F8 key: This should bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  3. Select ‘Safe Mode’ using the arrow keys and press Enter.

Update Device Drivers

While in Safe Mode, check and update your device drivers to resolve any driver-related issues.

  1. Press Win+X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand each category and right-click on the driver, then select ‘Update driver’.

System Recovery

If Safe Mode doesn’t resolve the issue, consider performing a system recovery.

  1. Press Win+I to open Settings.
  2. Navigate to Update & Security > Recovery.
  3. Click Get Started under the ‘Reset this PC’ section and follow the prompts.

HP Diagnostics Tools

Run built-in HP diagnostics tools to check for any hardware malfunctions.

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press F2 repeatedly until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu opens.
  3. Run the ‘System Tests’ to diagnose issues with hardware components.

I hope this helps.
