the windows 10 preview is actually very buggy, and cannot be considered as an option. it's just a way for windows insider to test and provide feedback as a part of the incremental development process. Let's wait for a stable final release that could be probably announced later in april during the microsoft build conference

Like I said I had this problem on my two laptop for 3 month and managed to fix it. had to break up the code to see how the calibrating works and found a lot of mistakes (Disclosure). will post the working driver in a while --> Again it's not a proprietary driver and you will not have all the control zone options

You edited and compiled a custom  driver? Where have you been this whole time.. Lol

What driver was this, the hp one or the generic synaptics one? Where did you find the source code?

I'd love to Look at it  when u get around to posting it.

KeDoubley,

I agree with Mikey and Carlos. Return your unit asap for an exchange.

You should not have to troubleshoot an HP problem and the longer you wait

to demand a replacement, the potentially harder it will be to get them to do it.

HP tried to prorate my refund based on the amount of time I spent trying to debug

the problem. It took a near act of God to get the full refund, but I finally did. Like us;

you have one of the lemons and need to get it replaced.

my two cents...

I found this gentleman's suggestions extremely helpful in solving my problem! Immediately the glitchy problems resolved. I don't know how it will work long term, but it is worth a try.

I've managed to find a work around to the glitch – one that lasts permanantly.

Go to your control panel, mouse settings, the HP Control Zone Settings tab, and open up the HP Control Zone Settings.
From there, expand the dropdown of Pointing, and open up the settings for SmartSense.

Under Advanced Filters, check "Restrict pointing to zone, and adjust the green area such that you disable any input from the 'frosted' area of the trackpad. Change the filter activation time to 0 seconds, and save all the settings! Ensure that you cannot input any touches from the 'frosted' area of the trackpad and that should fix all issues!

I suppose the glitches come from the different material on the trackpad causing some sensitivity issues. In case you want to know, I've disabled the Control Zone features.

Hope this helps!

Bryan

Totally right Bryanleebmy. You'll also notice that if the jumping most start a few click(not tapping) fixes it partially. Definitely a driver problem

Glad that worked for you Bryan. However, your driver interface is different from

what I had. There was no advanced selection for disabling the frosted areas of the pad in my version of the driver at that time. Disabling Control Zone features is a perfectly good solution if not using those features

is ok. It seems not to be a fix though, but an agreeable workaround in your case. I think a fix would be

full control zone functionality as advertised, without all the odd problems noted in this thread.

Hey, I had this problem too. I have two Pavilions, with flawless touch-pads, so when I got the fancy Envy model (with this issue) I'd make fun of it, since I would Envy my Pavilion. Alright, enough of that. I wasn't going to deal with this rubbish, so I began to troubleshoot. It wasn't necessarily a driver problem, since that would be dumb, to go unnoticed by HP techs, so I determined that my laptop had a hardware problem causing the erratic mouse-pad. Plus, there are several similar complaints easily found online through simple web searching. Seriously, some "Control Zone" huh? These words are both taunting and vexing. Anyway, I opened my laptop, and also found a few screws that were the wrong length, compared to what was inscribed on the system and written in the manual. Once I had reached the back of the mouse touch-pad, with the system-board out of the way, I began to remove the screws and tape attaching it to the rest of the laptop structure. I made sure I removed anything that looked foreign, like white stickers covering other labels. This included the restraining tape, I didn't want that there either. Basically, I unplugged and removed the Control Zone touch-pad from my laptop, along with any unnecessary labels and tape. Then I aligned the touch-pad with the single-centered button that clicks whenever the touch-pad is used as a left/right button. Finally, I carefully added the main touch-pad screws without over-tightening and sealed up my laptop. I'm using the default drivers and settings with Gestures disabled and it's working much better now, and keeps working compared to before, when it would stop randomly and point erratically. My Pavilions were better, though. They worked satisfactorily right out of the box, and still do. I solved this by removing my HP laptop touch-pad component and carefully installing it back.
