HP Pavilion - 15t-cs000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I get the error in the title when moving the laptop quite quickly such as the accelerometer should intervene.

I checked with WinDbg and I get:

A driver tried to write to an unallocated address in the
user space of the system process.
MODULE_NAME: hpdskflt

IMAGE_NAME: hpdskflt.sys

Anyone able to understand why? I assume that it is because the driver is not compatible with 1809 and after, but maybe I am missing something.

Thanks,

@mda1971 Welcome to HP Forums Community!

Memory management is vital to keep your operating system ticking over nicely. Memory management is the function that manages your system memory.
Properly working memory management, however, is vital to your system health.

The Memory Management Blue Screen Error

Simply put, a memory management BSOD means there’s been a critical memory management error.
There are several well-known causes of memory management errors:

  • Faulty RAM
  • Issues with new hardware, such as a graphics card
  • Faulty drivers
  • Software issues, including corrupt system and operating system files
  • Disk errors

At times, your system might recover after a simple reset. If you encounter a Memory Management BSOD, restart your system and see if the error returns. If not, there is a chance it was a one-off.

So how do you fix it? Here are a few things you can try.

  • Install all available updates for Windows 10

  • Run Windows 10 Memory Diagnostic Tool

  • Run a diagnostic test using the HP Hardware diagnostics tool

  • Install all driver updates from the HP website: Click here

  • Run CHKDSK & Run SFC:

    • type command prompt in your Start menu search bar, then right-click the best match and select Run as administrator. (Alternatively, press Windows key + X, then select Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.)

Next, type chkdsk /r and press Enter. The command will scan your system for errors and fix any issues along the way.

    • Type Command Prompt (Admin)in the Start menu search bar, then right-click and select Run as administrator to open an elevated Command Prompt.
    • Type the following command and press Enter: DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • Wait for the command to complete. The process can take up to 20 minutes depending on your system health. The process seems stuck at certain times, but wait for it to complete.
    • When the process completes, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

If nothing works, please use the windows reset to resolve the issue: Click here for steps

(ensure a backup of all personal data to external storage is done before you reinstall the OS)

Let me know how that pans out,

Dear Riddle_Decipher,

thanks for the prompt reply. I have tryed everything and nothing works including a refresh.

The WinDbg gives always the same error: hpdskflt.sys meaning that that is the driver that has problems. I cannot obviously disable it and my only hope is that HP is fixing it, as that component is part of the HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor, i.e. the HDD protection accelerometer. Could this conflict be caused by the hybrid configuration of my Pavilion?

Anyhow, I assume that, being you an HP employee will report this issue to whoever is responsible of that driver for W10. I can provide the WinDbg results or the memory dump files. The issue started after updates to W10 1809... there has been an update of that but, so far, there is no updated driver for 1809 version and upwards (currently running 1903 in the slow Insider Preview stream).

Take care,

MDA

@mda1971 If the refresh/resetting of windows didn't do the trick, I suggest you make use of the HP Recovery Manager to reinstall windows to factory defaults: Click here for details, please ensure you back up all personal data before reinstalling the OS, While you check that out, I must let you know that we haven't been informed about this issue by Windows as off yet, hence its safe to assume that the solution is either being worked on as we speak or the only solution to this issue is to reinstall windows as the recent update if interrupted or if the files were corrupted during installation would cause the same issue, as well.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

No, won't do that. The PC got to HP with that issue reported and then got recovered to 1709 or so, that did the trick just for compatibility.

I have reported the issue with Microsoft through the Feedback Hub, but I hoped that this would expedite a solution from HP, considering that the part is HP and the driver too...

@mda1971 the driver is more likely from the hard drive manufacturer, either Seagate or others, and such issues also occur when a particular update is interrupted during installation as mentioned before, I personally suggest perform an extensive hardware test to identify any hardware issues (if need be) or reinstall the OS to resolve the issue:

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

Info from the web: Hpdskflt.sys is a type of SYS file associated with Mobile Data Protection System developed by HP Hewlett-Packard Company for the Windows Operating System.

It is part of the mobile data protection system provided by HP, not the provider of the drive. So much so that if you look here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Delete-or-update-hpdskflt-sys/t... it seems that this HP crapware is installed also when the Hard DIsk is actually a SSD that obviously does not need that and that guy had an issue with 1803 (mine starter with 1809 that is why I tried moving to 1903) that apparently was solved with a BIOS update... either that or the update to the driver should come from HP, not the HDD manufacturer.

Please escalate the case to HP. Last time I was complaining about the incompetency of HP employees (similar to the one of the IT support I get at work, were many times I have to tell how to solve problems to the guys there) on this forum a VP ended up writing to me personally!
