Hi @sbs161,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I Understand that your concern, don’t worry I will help you with this .
To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?
- What is your exact HP laptop model and age?
- Does the laptop stay on when the charger is plugged in, or does it shut down?
- Is the charging light on?
- If yes, what color (white/orange/amber)?
- Did this start suddenly, or did the battery drain very quickly before this happened?
- Have you recently updated the BIOS or Windows, or replaced the battery?
These details help determine whether this is a calibration issue, battery failure, or charging problem.
Troubleshooting steps to try
1. Leave it plugged in for an extended time
Sometimes when the battery is deeply discharged:
- Plug the original HP charger directly into a wall outlet
- Leave it charging for at least 1–2 hours
- Do not try to turn it on during this time
After that, power it on and see if the percentage changes.
2. Perform a power reset
This can help reset the battery controller:
- Turn the laptop off
- Unplug the charger
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds
- Plug the charger back in
- Turn the laptop on and check the battery status
3. Run HP Battery Diagnostics
- Power off the laptop
- Turn it on and press Esc, then F2
- Run the Battery Test
Please note any results or error codes shown.
4. Check battery status in BIOS
- Restart and press F10 to enter BIOS
- Look for battery information:
- Is the battery detected?
- Does it show 0% or “Not charging”?
If the battery is not detected or shows an error, that usually points to a failing battery.
5. Update or reset BIOS battery settings
If this started after an update:
- Load BIOS defaults
- Save and exit
Sometimes this helps the system re-detect the battery properly.
I hope this helps.
