Laptop HP Probook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

Recently installed Windows 10. Today I forgot the laptop too long without the plug, and it went off. After plugging in and restarting there was a strong brightness that seemed to remain unaffected by the brightness setting. I restarted to see if that would resolve the problem, but the laptop didn't turn back on.

It stayed black screen, caps lock blinking regularly, and started making a strong ventilation noise and blowing warm air on the left. Tried to force shutdown from the button, no response. Got battery out, and started it only on plug, and then it worked.

Any suggestions for cause or how to prevent the same in the future? I'm without the battery now, and if I get it back in all that might happen again.

Thanks!

Hi @chinovsky

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

It's hard to say 100% it will never happen again but based on your description I believe this was a temporary Windows glitch and is less likely to happen again. It did not turn back on because it did not restart properly.

The blinking CAPS lock and fan blowing  is/was an indication of either BIOS/UEFI problem or hardware problem but since it did not happen again, it has faded away and was a temporary glitch.

I recommend you place the battery back in, restart the PC and see how it goes.
