- Re: Change reserved UMA framebuffer size on Ryzen mobile lap...

I recently bought a new laptop with a Ryzen mobile CPU and 8GB of RAM. By default it reserves 2GB of system memory for the integrated GPU. This means I go from 8GB to 6GB of usable memory, which is less than ideal. I specifically got this laptop because it has 8GB of RAM, and only being able to use 6GB of it is quite disappointing.
Since I will never be using 2GB of VRAM and more memory can be allocated dynamically anyway, I would like to change this value to something lower (like 256MB as per AMD recommendations). The relevant option would be the UMA framebuffer size, but it's missing from the BIOS (in both the version that came with my device and the most recent BIOS from the HP support site). Is there any other way to change this setting? If not, would it be possible to add this option to a future BIOS version?
Other than this issue I'm very satisfied with this laptop so far.

@GalaxyMaster I understand your concern and will forward your recommendation to the R&D Team, however, the changes may take time and there's no saying how long before the next release that would allow you to make these changes get released, as of now, system managed settings is the only way this process is being handled.

@GalaxyMaster Welcome to HP Community!
Adding it to the future release may be an option depending on the requirement of such an option, however, HP recommends you use the computer the way it is, as the VRAM is optimized to the best performance your device can work on, the settings are system managed and cannot be changed manually.
If you have slow performance as such, please use the below link for troubleshooting steps that should help.

It would be great if the option could be added to a future BIOS update. Having 2GB of reserved memory is unnecessarily high because the system can dynamically allocate more ram to the GPU when it's necessary. There is no observable performance difference between something like 256MB and 2GB of reserved memory. All it does is prevent that memory from being used by the rest of the system. Some older games weren't made with integrated graphics in mind and can behave undesirably when the reserved memory is too low, but the vast majority of games work just fine with a small amount. It would be nice if it was user-configurable to cover all scenarios and allow people to select the best setting for their own use case.
