Thanks for taking time to bother with my computer problems!
I am now running Classic Shell (Windows 7 look) and my Wife likes it better. I am also running the 1703 Ver. of Windows 10 and I did a clean install. I had the computer plugged in and it ran for hours, but when I hit the Classic Shell shut down button it shut down very quickly!
I don't think she will load it back with all the TRASH HP had installed on it. I honestly think that was at least part of the shut down problem!
I may download a DVD Player for her but she said she had no interest in it.But, that's now. Microsoft has come out with one for $15.00 but she said she wouldn't pay for it. I bought a Retail Windows Pro for her and she said it should have come with one!
She is right on that. Windows copied Google Chrome for Edge and is copying Apple in the Apps sales to raise funds-and gave the OS away to stop the Hackers!
Many Thanks and may God Bless You and Yours,
Harmie1

I forgot to mention that I am getting an error message on start up.
It says: System error! AccelerometerST.exe couldn't start-what ever that is- but that reinstalling the program could fix the problem.
I don't even know what it is!
I will has to search for it on the Net, unless you can fill me in on it.

You're most welcome. 🙂
You've been fabulous to work with considering your superb technical skills, remarkable patience and great attitude. Kudos to you for that.
Please try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP 3D DriveGuard and select Uninstall.
When this has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has reloaded, download and install the version of HP 3D DriveGuard on the following link.

Hope this helps. Have a great day!

The Tip of inserting by command-shutdown /s /t 0, worked great for a while after upgrade to Windows 10-1703, but is one again failing to turn off the computer. It shuts down Windows but leaves the computer on once again!
I hate to bother you again, but II am worried about having to manually pressing and holding the power button to shut her computer off. Is there any chance that CC Cleaner could have removed the command?
Can I pick your brain for another solution to this problem?
Is the CC Cleaner the problem?
Is there a place I can save the command where it would be safe from removal?
Sorry to be a problem for you, but no one else came up with anything! I hope you will give this some serious thought and come up with a permanent solution to this problem. As far as I know, your are not suppose to shut the computer down by the power button, but by the software of the OS.
Please help or post it somewhere it may get some attention. No one but you have come up with ANY SOLUTION so far.
I don't think anyone else even tried to answer me, but you would get many replies to the posted question.
HP Envy 15-k118nr-Windows 10 Pro X64-Ver. 1703 plus updates.

You're most welcome 🙂
I do not think that CC cleaner could cause this. But I suggest you to repair the Windows operating system by performing a Windows refresh (repair).
NOTE: Though the steps are mentioned for Win8, the steps would work for Win10 too.
Good luck to you and let me know the outcome. Cheers! 🙂

The solutions works well for a while, then it back to shutting down Windows but not the mechanical computer!
In other versions of Windows, there was a way of using Notepad with a certain .file extension at the end to write it to the Registry of Windows. I wonder if the- shutdown /s /t 0 is being over written or removed and if it may help to write this command to the Registry using the Notepad with.xxx (whatever it was) extension.
Just my thought as an old time computer user from the days of DOS-not an Employee or computer expert on any scale!
I could find the Notepad ext, .reg I think, but not dare do so without asking you experts. I used to love to re-install the fresh OS to a computer, but now I am disabled and don't feel so frisky nowadays!
Please let me know what you think as soon as convenient for you.
Many Thanks for all the trouble you guys have been through to help me with this,

Hi Lisa and Harmie,
it is a privilege to share this platform with you.
Please open the command prompt and run this as administrator; powercfg h off then hit enter.
Under Power settings, go to Advanced settings and make sure that the "Power buttons and lid/Power button action" option is set to " Shut down ".
Also, you may try the following steps:
- Right Click: Windows icon in the lower-left corner of the task bar
- Select: Control Panel
- Select: Trouble Shooting
- Under System and Security Select: Fix Problems with Windows Update
- Select: Trouble Shoot as an Administrator
Hope this helps. Good luck! 🙂

Hey! That was a shocker for me! The trouble shooter found and fixed (4) problems with Windows Update. I would have liked to copied the fixes and sent them to you, but I could not highlight and copy and a screen shot would have sent the whole page so I let it go.
I don't know where you guys get these ideas, but PLEASE keep it up!
May God Bless You and Yours,

Looking back over things, are you saying that if I reset the items shown in paint, like correct the sleep settings and others, that may fix the problem.
If that was what you was intending for me to see, I completely missed it! I am a little DUMB!
However, when the computer goes to sleep or the screen saver comes on you have no choice but restart the computer because you will never wake it up nor get the screen saver to to awake the computer.
On my Dell Desktop, the screen saver is gone by touching the mouse, but not this HP Envy 15-k118nr!
Many Thanks

Hi @harmie1,
I am the The_Fossette. It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.
I would like to know whether you did a system refresh suggested by MKazi. If not I recommend you to perform system refresh and check if it resolves the issue.
If the issue persists, I recommend you to follow the steps in the below article.
Let me know how it goes. Awaiting your reply!
