The 125% scaling I mentioned, I mean is thru windows display under customize display. When I set that back to 100% as it defaults to 125% with the windows update deiver. Ihe white bar is gone.

The .0,.1.2. (There is also a .3000 and .5000 something thru windows update catalog) I'm pretty sure is just a vendor I'd number. It's all really the same driver.

@Nickhammond

FYI, Radeon panel came back after driver reinstal with automatic downgrade to ver. xxx.655.0 even though I was reinstalling later ver.

with regard to your memory tinkering:

Memory (Ryzen):

For computer models equipped with an AMD Ryzen5 processor, AMD FX quad core processor, or AMD A12 quad core processor:
Two SODIMM memory module slots, non-customer-accessible/non-upgradable
DDR4-1866 dual channel support (DDR4-2400 downgrade to DDR4-1866)
Supports up to 16-GB of system memory
Supports the following configurations:●
16384-MB (8192-MB × 2)●
12288-MB (8192-MB + 4096-MB)●
8192-MB (8192-MB × 1 or 4096-MB × 2)For computer models equipped with an AMD A9-9420 dual core processor:
One SODIMM memory module slot, non-customer-accessible/non-upgradable
DDR4-2133 single channel support (DDR4-2400 downgrade to DDR4-2133)
Supports up to 8192-GB of system memory (8192-MB × 1)

SVC manual clearly suggests using DDR4-2400 and chipset will adjust the timing to 1866 level

some slower memory may still work but NOT ALL, only fiendly ones if general rules apply here

if MB expects to see specific timings only 2400 will work, and also not every type/manuf., be prepared

Intel:

assemblyMemoryComputer models with model numbers 15m-bp1xx through 15-bp1xx:
Support for DDR4-2400 dual channel (8-GB DDR4 2666 SODIMM bridge to 8-GB DDR4 2400 1.2v SODIMM)
One SODIMM memory module slot, non-customer-accessible/non-upgradable
Support for 4-GB on-board system memory (512-MB×16×4pieces)
Supports up to 16-GB of system memory in the following configurations:●
16384-MB (16384-MB × 1; 16-GB DDR4 2666 SODIMM bridge to 16-GB DDR4 2400 1.2v SODIMM; only available on computer models equipped with an Intel i7 processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA memory)●

DDR4-2133 dual channel support (DDR4-2400 downgrade to DDR4-2133)
Supports up to 16-GB of system memory

make sure you have the right SVC manual.

As I wrote above, clearly looks like you need to use a step faster memory (upgrade for Ryzen and Intel). That's by design.

It has 2 slots, both user accessible.

Putting the 8gb hygenx ddr2133 ram in dimm 1.by it's set runs at 2133

Putting the same ram in dim 1 and a ddr 2400 in dim 2, the both run at 2133

Swapping them and they both run at 2400

It will boot up with the 8gb 2133 Samsung ram but constant crashes runs at 2133

It will not even always boot up with the 8gb 2400 patriot ram weather it paired with anything else or not.

No clue why the service manual lists things differently. I'm guessing it's not updated to the ryzen mobile specs?

Amd lists 2400 as its max speed. Evedently Lenovo is using 2133 ram in their Ryzen model. standard ddr4 us actually 2133. The 2400 and higher ram is just auto overclocked.

I'll play with it more when I run across more ram 🙂

Don't recall the first memory model no. or other data, it was Kingston I believe, then in another unit was Samsung, both 2400 and operating at 2400 not 2133. I gave you specs from Ryzen and Intel ver. manuals (specific - they are different).

Another subject. HP Envy x360 display panels:

In may case, well, it turns out that in good looking units (first production batch it seems, as they are displays/demos) display panels come from:

BOE - BOE06F9.

Now, crappy, dimmer and yellowish ones are from:

Chi Mei - CMN15E9

They look very different. One has good white color, the other... not worth mentioning. Awfull. It was a shock to me to open up the box at home. Took some serious correction to minimize yellow tint and as a result screen is a lot (at least 20-25%) dimmer while still slighly yellow tinted. Returned it... and I'll look for e BOE panel.

It is very disingenuous from HP to freely swap display units, without any info on that, as the appearance could not be more different. As a result you are getting a different, visibly lower quality product then the one on display. I'm not going to settle for that.

HP changes the screens all the time on these Quanta made units.  Is the light bleed any better with the "newer" one?

on a good note i tested a couple games just for fun

Civilization VI DX12- Medium settings runs great (extremely load fan noise thou)

Fall Out 4 - Medium Settings also runs perfectly (higher settings may be fine)

Ineresting how these bad screens never make to the first production batch (when, coincidentally, reviews are being produced en masse)? Any idea why?

Looks like a tested and proven process. Get them out first with everything tested and approved... and then (after all the rave reviews) settle for cheap stuff. Does it make sense?

Backlight bleed in a HP normal variance range, some... not major, barely acceptable. I'd say HP seems to be borderline, just below the freak out level, wasn't aware before how many crappy ones are out there. If you had this kind of backlight bleed on your TV it will surely fly out the window. For whatever reason people put up with this mediocrity. Seems CPU's, memory and SSD's are taking all the attention off the really important stuff that you look at all your day.

Still on the fence with Ryzen (not as convinced as before, after continuously fixing the driver). It seems an overall nice product, quite snappy if you take care of video driver issues. Begs for SSD/HDD setup. Memory later. Touch pad seems very smooth, better then my Intel Acer. Give me your thoughts.

HP Recommended

With 12Gb ram, and an M.2 SSD its faster then the Dell i7u 940MX laptop i was playing with before. Howver the Dell didnt have any light bleed.

The Bios link you posted is for an Intel chip system.  He is looking for AMD Ryzen solutions.  The current Dec 1st release Bios update for Ryzen doesn't seem to work either.  It won't even load on my system.  The late November update did work.

HP Recommended

Find the support page for Ryzen https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-15-bq100-x360-convertible-pc/16851053

just 1 BIOS version.

I noticed too, he gave you a wrong link, well, what can I say... thought you find it anyway.

software seems to be in original, as new, state. Seems they feel it's adequate.

The replaced laptop crashes on YT videos, seems chronic, every (4) laptop had yhe same problem, video crashing on YT

I don't play games and I don't think that this is a gamers laptop so I stick to basics. And the basics are not very impressive, at least in the video department.

If drivers were better and screens (no bleeding) this seems to be a nice looking product. Coluld be 100-150 cheaper.

They want to capitalize on a novelty weekness. Despite overall nice build it doesn't deserve a place on a shelve HP wants to put it on, not yet. It does need a SSD to improve overall performance with HDD as storage.

Just noticed, screen brightness buttons stopped working.

As I suspected, out of curiosity I put in Google "Vega 8 and editing", this is what came up:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/6yor5w/vega_massive_video_playing_and_editing_issues/

confirming issues with video playback, browsing, YouTube, photo and video editing on Ryzen/Vega 8 platform. Did not dig any further, but there's going to be a lot more despite its young age...

FYI, users report significant problems described in this thread. Freezing, stutter, unresponsiveness, color problems and generally unpredicatble behavior especially with Adobe but not only. Also widely used other video players. Just wondering when and how AMD is going to address it by fixing the driver. I see a significant difference in my 2 laptops behavior, one is Intel, the other HP Ryzen/Vega 8. While I had a minimum of 30 "incidents" with HP/Ryzen at the same time not a single occurance on Intel i5-8250/HD620+nVidia mx150) platform > Can't be a coincidence.
