Hello,

 

Last week I noticed that my battery was staying at 52% and it said it was "plugged in not charging".. I had my Dad reset/update the BIOS.. that did not solve the problem and I also unpluged the battery and uninstaled the charger ect. and that did not work.  Now it is only charging up to 46%... noting beyond that..HP support assistant on the laptop says the battery is ok... The laptop is just over a year old.

Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are having a problem with your battery giving you the “Plugged in, not charging” message. I will be happy to help you with that. First Test and Calibrate the Battery. Then try resetting the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery which is basically the driver that communicates between the computer and the battery. There is a chance that it is corrupted.

Step 1. Go to Device Manager
Step 2. Select Batteries
Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 4. Click Uninstall
Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
Step 6. Shutdown the computer
Step 7: Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in

When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

Step 8. Go to Device Manager
Step 9. Select Batteries
Step 10. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 11. Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller if you have it listed.

Hello,

 

Thank you for the help.. that seemed to work but not completely... after I did that it would charge up to 56% and then do the plugged in not charging... now it will only charge up to 46% and do the plugged in not charging. Thanks

Hi apk610,

 

Run an Energy Report as mentioned in this third-party link. The link is for Windows 7 but if you can bring up Command Prompt by search for it on your title page and the rest will be the same.  Let me know what you get for Errors and Warnings. Also down near the bottom of the report in the Information section there is Battery Information. Let me know what values you get for both Design Capacity and Last Full Charge.
