Hi All.
I have an HP Pavilion laptop and an HP Envy 6020 printer. The HP Smart app says scanning not available although I can print on it.
i have reinstalled the HP app, restarted the computer but it still doesn’t work. The strange thing is that the HP app works fully on my other laptop, a Lenovo.
Any suggestions as to fix this problem would be welcome.
Thanks
Chris

@a1terrier, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Check Printer Connection
USB Connection: If your printer is connected via USB, make sure the cable is securely plugged into both the laptop and the printer.
Wi-Fi Connection: If the printer is connected over Wi-Fi, verify that the HP Pavilion is on the same network as the printer. Go into the printer's settings and check the network status.
Try restarting both the printer and the laptop to ensure they re-establish a proper connection.
Check Scanner Settings in HP Smart
Open the HP Smart app and go to the Scan section.
Ensure that the correct scanner is selected. Sometimes the app may select a different device.
If the app doesn’t list your printer, try clicking “Add Printer” again.
Windows 10/11 Scanner Settings
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
Under “Printers & Scanners,” see if your printer is listed. If not, click Add a printer or scanner to add it.
If the printer is listed but scan options are unavailable, try uninstalling the printer (right-click > Remove device), then reinstall it through Add a printer or scanner.
Update Printer Drivers
Go to Device Manager > Printers.
Right-click your HP printer and select Update driver.
If that doesn’t work, go to HP’s website and manually download the latest drivers for your HP Envy 6020 and install them.
Reinstall the Printer in Windows
Uninstall Printer Drivers: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers and right-click on the HP Envy printer, then click Remove device.
Reinstall the Printer: Add the printer again by going to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners and clicking Add a printer or scanner.
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
I hope this helps.
