I wound up finding a suitable resolution for both my issues:

First I found an article on how to properly update the Bios based on the type of laptop I have, specifically.  Which should solve contant fan running issues and should fix the HP Accelerometer Compatibility Assistant Error message I was getting.

I followed the instructions step by step to identify my model/serial # so I can find the appropriate BIOS update for my laptop. Then I confirmed that even though I updated my BIOS through my HP App on my laptop it wasn't the most up to date version. This link identified the updated version I needed.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

After updating the BIOS to the proper version & restarting my fan immediately stopped running constantly on it's own.  That's one issue solved !

But after the restart I still got the HP Accelerometer Compatibility Assistant Error message again. So I found this link to give me the proper and only resolution that worked all day. I followed their instructions, and then I restarted, and it finally stopped giving the error messsage on start up.

Hope this helps everyone.

Good Luck

This accelerometer glitch may have been solved for the original poster's Pavilion X360, but it certainly isn't solved for all HP laptops.

Instructions that you'd normally follow and expect them to work:
1. Download the HD 3D DriveGuard update from the HP support page for your particular model of HP laptop.
2. Uninstall HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor from Device Manager – System Devices.
3. Install the update and see if the annoying error message still appears when you boot into Windows 10.

What happened when I tried the various DriveGuard update links on my HP 6470b:

(Supposedly all this one does is suppress the error message.)

HP 3D DriveGuard 7.0.1.1

HP 3D DriveGuard 7.0.2.1 rev A for Win 10 v1803
Installation starts but doesn't seem to complete, and I don't see any new or changed entry appear in Device Manager.

When I rebooted after trying to install every version, Windows 10 reported that it needed to restart to finish installing HP 3D DriveGuard. I checked Device Manager and found 5.2.2.1 in the process of installing, with the note:

This device cannot work properly until you restart your computer. (Code 14)

Windows did not start a related device driver. To learn more, click the Driver tab and then click Driver Details.

You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take effect.  Click Restart Computer to restart your computer.

When I restarted, the driver had an exclamation point in Device Manager and was blocked:

The driver for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

At some point (not sure exactly when), Device Manager moved the accelerometer device from the System Devices category into the Other Devices category, but I knew it was the same device because it was using the same device value ACPI\HPQ6000\3&B1BFB68&0 and resource IRQ 0x00000017 (23).

When I tried to point to the folders with the other driver files, each one said:

The best drivers are already installed.

When I uninstalled 5.2.2.1 and pointed to the folders with the other driver files, Windows couldn't find drivers for the unknown device. When I asked Windows to "Search automatically for updated driver software", the result was:

Windows encountered a problem installing the drivers for this device. Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them.

HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor.

The system cannot find the file specified.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit their website and check the support section for drivers.

Windows moved the device back into the System Devices category as "HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor".

Temporary (permanent?) workaround:
I disabled the device in Device Manager.

Great job, HP!  I'm so excited to buy an HP laptop in the future (as in, never).  This is like buying a car and noticing that one of the doors is slightly crooked.  Perception is everything, and small things matter.
