Or install the issued core version first, then apply sp83846.exe for patching?
Tried it without uninstalling earlier version (6.0.41.1). After installing this newest Softpack it gave me vs 6.0.45.1, so it looks as a newer version. No unwanted message after rebooting.

I downloaded SP83846 and installed it after verifying that I didn't appear to have an older version installed. After I rebooted I went to Services under Task Manager and version 6.0.22.1 was running, but when I check APPS it says I have version 6.0.45.1 installed. I am completely confused at this point.
The message is gone, but I have no idea what is installed. C:\Windows\System32 says that HP3DDGService.EXE is version 6.0.22.1. I renamed it before installing to make sure the new version would be installed when I ran SP83846.
Any insight would be appreciated.

I tried this suggestion:
Latest 3D Driveguard released to fix the compability problem:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp83501-84000/sp83846.exe
I have 6.0.45.1 version in the program list now.
I didn't get the error message again.
Thanx!

It is weird that the icon just shows grey (HP.jpg) in color and doesn't report it's working properly. Refer to HP document (HP2.jpg) that there is a symbol to represent the status. I wonder that the accelerometer whether it is activated or not. Maybe the patch is just eliminate the popup alert message.

Hello!
Same result to me now, but the trick was to install first the recommended version for my model (Pavilion Gaming), then fix the installation with the newer version (link quoted).
Now all works fine, Driveguard is present in app list, driver version is 6.0.45.1 and i don't have any annoying message at startup!
Cheers!

@JaneMS wrote:What does the HP accelerometer even do? Does it matter if it's not working? I've noticed that annoying message too, and wondered if I can just uninstall it and forget about it.
It detects any sudden movements of the laptop (e.g. a fall) and reacts by retracting and parking the heads of the HDD to avoid scratching of the platters of the HDD.
So there's a small risk if you uninstall it.
