HP EliteBook Folio 9470m Ultrabook (ENERGY STAR)

Happy New Year!
I've been in a peeing contest with our internet provider over speed issues. They're saying my equipment is mostly to blame.

I just ran a Speedtest.net speed test side by side between my HP Folio 9470m laptop and my wife's new(ish) Asus laptop.

The Asus tested at 290mbps and my HP came in at a lackluster 68.

Can anyone tell me if there's a quickie fix that would bring the HP up-to-speed? (Notwithstanding the fact that I'm sure there are "other issues" with a computer this old that might suggest updating the entire machine....I'd rather spend $50 or $100 on an updatable component than buy an whole new computer for $1500.

While we're at it, is there any "quick fix" for making this machine Windows 11 capable?

Thanks very much for any help and/or suggestions!

Hi, Michael:

According to chapter 3 of the service manual, the best wifi card offered in the model series is the:

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235    HP part # 670292-001.

That card should have a maximum throughput of 300 MBPS on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an excellent signal.

If you have that card that would be the best one you can have because your notebook probably has a BIOS whitelist which blocks the installation of any other model Wi-Fi card other than those listed in chapter 3 of the service manual.

The Intel 6205 card has the same throughput but doesn't have Bluetooth.

If your notebook has the Broadcom or Atheros card, those only are single band cards that have a max throughput of 72 MBPS on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band, and you can replace those cards with one of the Intel cards listed in the manual.

They must have the HP part numbers on them or they will not work.

Windows 11:

If you are currently running on W10 and if you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H3.

You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.
